Just an observation from someone who spends far too much time reading Reddit, but the hand-wringing over Miami's schedule this season is absolutely glorious.

Apparently we're now a shoo-in for the CFP, our path is "too easy," and it's somehow unfair that our SEC and Big Ten rivals have to navigate weekly gauntlets while the Hurricanes are supposedly going to be emptying the bench and giving the second and third stringers meaningful snaps by the fourth quarter.

Funny how the narrative has shifted. For years it was Miami wasn't relevant, Miami hadn't beaten anyone, Miami couldn't compete with the big boys. Now the complaint is that we're so well-positioned that the schedule is doing us favours.

Sounds less like criticism and more like concern.

The fear factor is back and judging by some of the reactions out there, people aren't quite sure how to deal with it.
 
it's not a narrative switch. our schedule is *** we play 1 team that will have a pulse. the majority of our schedule won't even have over 500 records by the end of the year.
 
On the scheduling front;

Of the 138 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) programs set to compete this season, only 13 – or nine percent – won’t play an opponent from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). That’s up three from the 10 who didn’t play one last season. Of the 13 teams on this year’s honor roll, nine hail from a power conference, including Notre Dame, while four represent a Group of Six league. The Big Ten again leads the way with six representatives, while the SEC and Mountain West are tied for second with two teams apiece. The American, Pac-12, and Independents have one representative each.

Keep in mind the B1G schools do this yet 2 of the 6 schools — Penn State and USC — don’t play any p4 ooc opponents; while others like IU will play FCS programs in addition to playing no-p4 ooc opponents (MSU, Michigan, Ohio State, UCLA excused).
 
Regular season schedules are now irrelevant. Bowl games are irrelevant. Rivalry games (for the most part) are irrelevant.

Just get in the playoffs and get hot and win 4.

Twitter is nuts. Never seen so many people crying over playing an FCS team. Miami truly is polarizing to casual fans.
 
I’d love to see UM waltz through the season emptying the bench in blow out games. The reality is that our history in the ACC suggests otherwise. I very much hope this is the year we finally avoid those mid-season stumbles to teams that have no business beating us, but until that happens we shouldn’t be taking for granted that we’re getting guaranteed W’s against every team not named Notre Dame.
