Welcome to The U, Terry McCray!!!!

Jw410, please tell me you are joking about Rico Williams. Lol! Wow. Smh. Ill say it again..Randy got that one right.

Im not blown away by TM but the staff has not missed at LB yet so I gotta trust them with this take. And if we can get back in Ely's good graces im all for it. One thing you cant take away from him is his size and speed. Looks to have good speed for his size.

No lol joke

I'm just saying I want to see more production from our Linebackers period. Once we start hearing their names more often I mean 100+ tackles often.

Irrelevant point as to a recruit, since he is not eligible for a game till 2014. FYI he had 100+ tackles and 13 sacks as a junior.

What I don't understand is how people think that just because we offered him justifies him as a prospect. My personal preference aside, Golden & staff have taken kids that haven't panned out. That's why multiple players they signed have transferred. If you think McCray isn't a developmental guy and can step in right away and contribute you're crazy. You either didn't watch the tape or are lying to yourself. McCray to a couple of knowledge people on the site is worse version of Mike Smith (rushing the passer wise). I don't see the true fit to our system. Don't like him as a miami caliber prospect, especially with tight numbers & scholarship reductions. Kid could very well develop and turn into a contributor down the road, so ill reserve full judgement untill then. By no means is this an immediate impact kid

Everybody takes kids that dont pan out. McCray is not going to be asked to come in and contribute right away. Our LB depth we are building will allow that . Obviously Al isnt worried about the numbers as long as he gets who HE wants, so neither should we.

So why is one be bashed for the assumption that this kid won't pan out? Just because we offered him? Which goes back to my original post.

I would guess because you lean more towards the idea that he wont pan out before even giving him a chance......that may be it

So by your logic we can't even put forth the idea that kid isn't good? Every kid must be worth the scholly and will contribute in some way because our staff offered him right. Then in two/three years if he transfers out what then? It was the kids fault for not working not the staff? Or maybe it was because they just missed on a evaluation like they did with jacoby briscoe for example. I don't understand why everyone can't just say their opinion on the player. What'd you think of his highlights if I may ask you....did you even watch them?

I'm not gonna keep going back and forth when I know you won't open your mind so ill just say this. McCray could very well contribute at UM. Does that mean it will happen? No. Ill just reserve my judgement but there's nothing wrong with posters stating their opinion. Owens and young are beasts @ LB so our haul is good right now. Just because I look at things objectively doesn't mean I don't trust our staff

Accidentally "liked" this post when I meant to respond. I don't think anyone is saying you can't have an opinion. But the point is, what is your opinion worth. Dismissing the kid outright as many have done, based on the poster's "vast knowledge" is frankly, ridiculous. It appears that a highly qualified, experienced, and talented coaching squad views his potential differently from you and others on this board. Given that said coaching staff has forgotten more about football than the combined detractors on this board knows, my inclination is to go with the coaches. Will McCray pan out? Maybe, maybe not. But the opinion of the coaches that he's got something that indicates he's worth the scholarship is worth FAR more than the opinion of internet "coaches."

I like differing opinions and enjoy any good discussion that is on the board. I also like to know where these opinions and evaluations come from so here goes:

1. How many times have you seen McCray live? What didn't you like about him when you saw him?
2. If you haven't see him live what is your opinion based on?
3. If it is based on the 2 minute highlight tape, what didn't you like on the tape that would suggest he isn't Miami caliber?

wasn't he about to commit to lsu? or went to their camp and balled out or something? thought i saw somewhere he was close to being offered by them. what i'm getting at is they're not in the habit of taking scrubs, especially defensively. now their offensive evaluations...

Are you think about the hyphenated defensive tackle?

good point. repped plus liked. I'd love to say I blindly trust our defensive coaches evals but I can't just yet. But I will say I blindly trust John Chavis. best in the biz.

well i don't think any coaches evals should be trusted blindly. but yea i understand what you mean. some coaches have definitely earned a good bit of trust over the years to where if they offer a kid you know they probably see something in him.

I never dismissed him. Multiple times I said he contribute. I just think it's a questionable pickup. Time will tell

He had a top 2 of LSU & Miami. He believed he would get an offer from them but he never did

I dont really want to, but I just knew something like this would happen. But how can a guy like Skai not even get a visit to Coral Gables and the next year we got some guys with commitable offers in freaking July?!

Honest question, What is wrong with U school players, I know all arent top players but we seem to be down on them as a whole.

Wow.. get over it

Thanks for the insight. Lol..

The question of whether Skai or McCray is a better prospect is debatable. ****, the coaches MIGHT even say Skai is a better prospect. No one really knows. But that is the wrong question, and it stems from your view of the situation in a bubble, rather than applying the appropriate context (aka reality). Leading up to signing day last year, Golden could not have known that he would lose 3 linebackers as a result of very poor and selfish decisions - Johnson, Terry, and Paul. As such, he had to recruit based on filling the needs that existed at the time, including the then-existing numbers at linebacker.

Thus, the appropriate question is should Golden have offered a scholarship to Skai over Matthew Thomas. I don't think it's debateable that Thomas is considered a better prospect than Skai. Apparently, Thomas informed the coaches that he was going to select UM, and they relied on the kid's word -- a kid from a local feeder school. It would seem reasonable for the coaches to rely on Thomas's word. When he back stabbed the coaches on signing day, they made a last minute -- but likely futile --effort to recruit Skai.

I suppose you could argue that they should have recruited Skai harder throughout the process to increase the chances that he would be a back-up plan (e.g. Jawand Blue), but it is just as likely that the coaches determined that Skai was not the kind of prospect who was willing to be considered a back-up plan.

So if you apply the appropriate context then you would not compare Skai and McCray.

Highlights wernt great to me. But 100+ tackles and his size and speed and in s fla. I would take all day long.

Kid looked to have some explosiveness off the ball in the ESPN highlight, didn't appear to move all that well in that Rivals clip. Let's see how his senior season goes

i wouldnt have offered this early...i would need to watch his first 3 games imo.

He shows me he can play of the edge pretty well....i would request he gets more work for ely in space and see how he would perform...IMO the kid could be a solid SAM....

Mike Smith imo is a better one at this point though/.

Ay...

If the kid camped at Miami and the staff got to see him up close and personal, what more can you ask for?

Apparently they thought he was big, fast and athletic enough to play for them.

If he was a 4 star rated by rivals no one would questioning the commitment. The coaching staff has seen plenty of him, apparently have been on him of a while. Got to trust the staff here, they have done well with their LB evaluations since being here.
