Welcome to the U Izon Pulley 2016 DE/DT

I don't blame them for taking a commitment from a lower ranked player. Higher rated guys Decommit and spurn Miami often. Get guys that ACTUALLY wanna play for UM.

Smh. Why do I feel like we have this convo every offseason? When will you guys learn? Until we can prove on the field that the system we run is something that top DTs feel good about playing in WE WILL NEVER GET ONE TO COME HERE. Teams like FSU get DTs by the bushel because their system gives their DTs a chance to shine. Our doesn't. So unfortunately, we are stuck with guys like this kid, Ryan Fines, and JUCO kids.

The staff got lucky as **** with Courtel Jenkins (late bloomer. OSU wanted him at the last minute) and Gerald Willis (only here because hes boys with Standish). And yes I think Willis will grow into a DT. I think he play the "Olson Pierre" position.

Look, apparently we are changing the scheme this year so maybe there is still hope for us. But if we dont, get use to this...its not going to change.

I agree with everything you said. if played DT in high school and this scheme sucks for a DT no one wants to be a "blocker" for a LB to make plays. if the DT is disruptive and happens to be a blocker for a LB then that is cool but being a blocker by design is not fun. we also haven't had any our DT's get drafted high. Chick was our best and got drafted in the 6th round. that not appealing when you have Marcel Darius going in the 1st.

UM is thinking this kid will turn into another Olsen Pierre. Problem is with the a Top 3 class you should not have to make players into DT's when there are tons of 300+lbs monsters still uncommitted. This kid is at least 3 years away from being a quality contributor.

I am floored by this strategy this early in recruiting it is almost sending a signal that staff has given up on DT recruiting for 2016. Now the only saving grace is that staff shown in the past they have noooo problem dropping recruits they team on, when a better prospect comes along an hopefully the defensive philosophy will attract some of these players. Because this kid got owned at Rivals Richmond camp, an considering speed is supposed to be his strong point, he has consistently cut off to the outside by the blockers kick step. An he didn't have the power to bull rush the blocker when he was cut off.

In his high school video he plays with good leverage but that is not against top tier online high school talent, which is why he was exposed at the Rivals camp. But with all that said I say welcome to the U young man an he needs to hit a lot of camps to learn some more techniques.

Go Canes

Another Olsen Pierre, what was so god about the original one.very mediocre at his best here.

When they actually let Pierre play through the gaps he was very good. Also I can't emphasize how glad I am to see Jethro gone. He was the worst coach on the staff.

To further upset ya'll a very likely miami DT class at this point could be this kid, jabari ellis, tyrell chavis, and stephon taylor.

UM likes tall Dlinemen and those player mentioned above would avg 6'4" 280+lbs. Most would need to redshirt.

Go Canes

I dont think they have given up, I think they knw they have former 5 star Gerald Willis waiting cause he might have to sit out and their no 1 target Keyshon Camp is most likely gone.... get Aaron Thompson on Board and shut down DT recruiting IMO

Willis is a DE not DT. An Thompson is a plan B kid all the way. Camp is OVERRATED big time. There are threads and videos about that, so I won't go into it.

Go Canes

Ill take plan B Thompson any day.. get him locked in

This the main reason I want Golden out of here! You have to have sense enough to realize you have to change in scheme and DC! Instead he's out to make a point about his boy and their ill conceived scheme. Even when it's been pointed out they insist on not hearing and do a better job defending their scheme than the do coaching it!

kid is making plays AGAINST TOP LEVEL COMPETITION.

lOOKS TO BE ABOUT 6'3 260 PLUS...ill take him..especially coming out of that program. He doesnt look like an instant distance maker..but seems to be a rotation guy/ eventual 2 year starter type. Seems to have room to grow as well..could be a 6'3-6'4 285-290 3-4 end for us.

Why would we even take this committee. We ware never getting out of this ole. Need some talent.

Him not having a UMD offer say a lot.

I think he'll end up being a strong side 5 technique on run downs. He really uses his hands well, which is a must for that spot. Decent length, not an athlete honestly. Won't offer pass rush.

I'm happy for the kid...that's a kind way to say what I think.

I respect your opinion Prop Joe, but this sounds a lot like how people described Josh Holmes back in the day. Man did we convince ourselves of that one! The ole "he is only 16 so he hasn't even grown into his body yet!", "He's a state champion wrestler and you know that is a great sign for a top DT", "His motor NEVER runs out!", "He plays top comp in Cali!", "Give him 3 years and he will be a big contributer for us!"....Fast forward FIVE years and buddy did nothing for us..

The signs were there though..none of the big Cali schools offered him. We thought we were smarter then the room.

I will welcome the kid with open arms because he decided to play for us, but we have to find a way to grab an instant impact kid too. This kid will be on the shelf for at least 2 years.

Not josh Holmes situation at all. Josh Holmes was. Shaped like an egg, and looked like Goldberg from mighty ducks. This kid has a nice frame, and size again I'm going to say he in his film alone is going against div1 ol, good counsel plays national level teams and the best teams in dmv area. Kid has some solid div 1 offers right now from acc programs. He is getting good coaching you can tell by his technique, he is a kid that you take based off the program he is at, frame/size scheme fit I don't see Corey king/earl Moore in him... And south fla doesn't produce dts at a clip that we need so kids like this are essential. Rotation guy by year two if he commits might even need a shirt depending where they play him

As we seem to be overloaded at DE does this mean the DEF Staff expects him to put on 50 lbs to becoming a legitimate DT..
