Welcome to the U, Bowman Archibald

Big kid. Great frame. Build up speed with solid athleticism. In the past 5 years I might have seen a kid who can legitimately play TE at this level who blocks to this level as far as tenacity, willingness and form go. Several times you saw him pluck the ball out of the air naturally, and then several times you saw him cradle the ball and body catch it (once with hands the wrong way). He has a ways to go in routes, as he rounds most everything and used a lot of simple concepts. He was split out wide on his team and beat man coverage.

The kid is extremely aggressive and I see a TE all the way. I understand he's aggressive on defense and made some plays, but mostly they were unblocked or matched up against RB's. I don't see the combination of quickness and athleticism to truly excel at DE like I do TE. He's already 6-6, 240/ LB would not be an option. The good thing is that DE would be an option if TE doesn't pan out and with his length and strength he could be a solid run stuffing 3-4 DE.

I can see why all the programs are offering him, this kid is a rare package of tools.

With names like these, we really are turning into the Harvard of the South.

UM has probably had the most interesting names in college football history:

Barry ***** -- RB mid '60's (yes, that WAS his name)
Golden Ruel -- OL in the early '70's out of Gables, later OL coach for USC under Carroll and now asst OL coach for Seahawks. His God-given name is Golden Pat Ruel. Golden is apparently a surname for one of his ancestors so his father, I think, and Pat, were named Golden Pat Ruel. I used to get a kick out of it when our roster had a starter named Golden Ruel.

At Harvard, it is just as likely that you'll see a ******, Indian or Chinese surname among the student body. It's no longer the school just of the preppy WASPs.

It sounds like we're recruiting the old Mainline of Philadelphia....white Presbyterians and mainly Episcopalians.
J.C. Penny -- RB late '80s from Ohio

You done see many people with the last name ***** anymore. Hmmmm. Did all the *****'s disappeares.

He's the ONLY person I've ever seen that had that last name....if I had it, I'd seriously consider changing it. I think his last season was '64, but I'm trying to reach deep into my memory.

When I was younger, "*****" was a more commonly used pejorative for ****. Later, **** apparently got everybody to replace it with "***," which is apparently not derogatory.

I still wouldn't want to have that last name, but I give credit to people who have a thick enough skin that it does not bother them.

I remember when **** Cavett, on his talk show in the '60's, had a real guy on whose name was Donald Duck. He was a businessman from Denver, and he was from a Duck family (or family of Ducks) and they named him Donald. And no, I don't remember him saying he had any relatives named "Daffy."

E. Winston was 275lbs as an incoming Freshmen - this guy is 240 - pretty big difference, imo.

Good pickup for us. Very versatile showing he can play on both sides of the ball. I expect his stars to rise if he continues to improve.

This guy is still a junior in high school. What was Jason Fox at this time?

Heavier - but probably not by much. FWIW, Greg Olsen came in with archibald's exact height and weight measurements(6'6 240). It will be interesting to see how much he grows in a year.
