Weinberg the most underrated pickup of the season

The kicker last
Ima chill on kickers in sept.. especially fsu kicker.. need them to come thru in clutch and keep riding in Nov-Jan.. These ******* schizo kickers drive me crazy
the kicker last year looked good at this time too
Not at all he looked uncomfortable every time he went to kick. He made a career 4 fgs over 5 years and looked like it.

Just a reminder that Carter Davis went 3/8 on kicks in the playoffs
Really not a fair assessment. The misses were;

3 misses vs Texas A&M where he was kicking in a tornado.
51 yarder vs Ole Miss
50 yarder that hit cross bar vs Indiana

Do you hope your kicker can make those? Sure but it's not as if he was missing 40 yarders indoors.

No one in college football is kicking indoors. He’s a kicker. Do the job.

Is there a rule on CIS that people are not allowed to be happy or praise a UM player for his play?

Our kicker just hit a 50 yard FG. That is all. We don’t need a qualifier to every positive comment.

Let’s see him make a kick from 55 yards in a snow storm.
Let’s see him make the next 22 in a row
I want a higher trajectory on his PATs

What is the matter with all of you?

How about just be happy and enjoy the win and how much fun this is. We were not good for 20 years. We are good again.
ENJOY

Agreed. People need to have a reasonable expectation. Expecting a kicker to be automatic from 50+ would be like expecting Xavier Lucas, EOC, or Jaboree to man up Jeremiah Smith and basically shut him down in the playoffs this year. It's not a reasonable to expect that kind of performance.

Props to Weinberg for drilling that 50 yarder.

Yes some games are indoors. Two of the four playoff games were indoors.

"The job". What's that mean? 50 yarders be automatic? 55 yarders? 60 yarders? Making kicks in 40 mph swirling winds? Need to define your terms.
The kicker’s job is to make kicks. He wasn’t put in a position that was impossible. He wasnt called upon to hit a 60 yarder. And one of the kicks he missed was indoors.

People **** on this guy for a blocked field goal against Wake. Guy just knocked down a bomb yesterday. Give the man some props.

Make kicks. 60 yarders are kicks. Why don't you expect him to make those? I guess some expectations are reasonable and others aren't? What it sounds like.

Yeah he attempted a 51 yarder indoors and missed it. What a bum! It would have been great if he made but how many college kickers are better than 50/50 from 50 yards or more? Not a lot.

Last year Davis was perfect on XP's and 10 of 11 from 39 or less with the lone miss coming in the tornado at A&M.

From 40+
Hit a 49 yard game winner vs Notre Dame
Hit a 53 yarder vs Florida
Hit a 41 yarder vs Louisville
Missed a 44 yarder vs Stanford
Hit a 45 yard FG to give us the lead vs SMU
Missed a 42 yarder vs NC State
Hit from 46 and 40 vs Virginia Tech

Playoffs
Against A&M in a very strong swirling wind he missed from 47, 40, and 35.
Hit from 49 yards vs Ohio State
Missed from 51 yards vs Ole Miss
Missed a 50 yarder off upright vs Indiana

So 6 of 10 from 40-49 with two of the misses coming in the tornado vs A&M.
1 of 3 from 50+.

Where are the high % kicks that he missed? He made tough kicks against Notre Dame, Florida, and Ohio State. Was he perfect? Of course not but if you wouldn't take this level of performance from a kicker you aren't reasonable and/or are just looking to ***** at the players.

He was 3/8 in the CFP

And ask Chat what % of kicks are made by P-4 kickers from 40-49 yards. I bet you that % is well above 60%. like mid to high 70s, and kicks 50+ are better rate than 50%.

And yes, A&M was in terrible conditions, but you don’t know if Davis hits them without the wind either.

Davis wasn’t reliable down the stretch, brother.

Nope. You are wrong.

From less than 40 he was pretty much automatic with his only miss coming at A&M in awful conditions.

I don't know if he makes them in normal conditions? Well of course not but that's the point. He was asked to make kicks in horrendous conditions. If you remove the two misses from 40+ at A&M he was 6 of 8, 75%, on the season from 40-49 which is right in line with what normal P4 kickers do.

He was 1 of 3 from 50+. I think it's worth noting that he made two big time kicks from 49 yards, game winner vs Notre Dame and the kick vs Ohio State that put us up by 10 in the 2nd half.

"Down the stretch he was unreliable".

That's just a dumb low IQ statement. What high % kick did he miss? You are criticizing him because he didn't hit kicks in horrendous conditions at A&M and for missing a 51 yarder in the semifinal and a 50 yarder in the Natty that hit off the upright. He also made a 49 yarder against Ohio State in the playoffs but who cares about that as it doesn't fit your narrative. If he was missing 43 yarders I would agree that he wasn't getting it done but that's not what happened. He missed a few very difficult kicks pushing one to the right and one off the upright. You clearly have no idea what's reasonable to expect from a college kicker.

Sorry, Chat gave me the rate for elite kickers from those distances.

You’re right about Davis; he wasn’t elite from those distances in the CFP

LOL! Now you are moving the goal posts. Define elite kicker. WTF does that mean. It's wildly subjective. I asked for P4 kickers as that's what we were discussing.

Also I don't think anyone ever said Davis was elite last season. Was he good? Yeah. He made the kicks one would hope he'd make and he made several long kicks in high pressure situations as well. The only kicks he missed that, based on distance alone, you'd expect him to hit were at the A&M tornado. The dude did his job. If you are expecting more you aren't being reasonable.
