Week 8 Stat Roll

They stack the box with a 4-6 Bear (I assume that’s what he means) and they don’t need to make adjustments?!

How about you take your tight ends out of the game and bring in receivers and spread them out and throw into the short/medium spaces for starters.

What a ******* comment. JFC!

How about for once we are the ones that comes out with a total different offensive plan as they practice for the runs up the middle and we come out with 4 or 5 WRs?

This is gross but I don't care about this at all. It's the reason I almost never listen to anything any coach has to say. Show me. What's he going to say, yeah, we're going to do something totally different? We're going to add new stuff? No, this is a mind-numbing press conference and these coaches would rather have their balls stepped on than stand behind a podium and look at Borry Jackson's mongoloid face.

What he actually does is far more interesting to me. If he SHOWS me what he's saying here, then I'll vomit. And I'm not saying scrap everything and let's run the triple option next week. But the last 3 games you have run the ball 102 times for 344 yards. Sick.

You've been held under 100 yards rushing in back to back games, which is the first time that's happened since Dawson has been here. Also 63 yards rushing, which is what we got last week (and that's with no sacks, mind you), is the lowest number of his tenure. So, it's not working. Mix in something different to go along with trying to execute what you do better.

You as well, sir.

At the end of the day, I'm an offensive guy and I will always expect more out of my offense. So it's extra frustrating to me to see a defense pretty much completely flip and be a championship worthy unit, and the offense somewhat stuck in mud. I'll tell you this, and this isn't exactly astute analysis, but you put this defense on the 2024 team, and we're winning a natty with our eyes closed.

I always appreciate the micro views and discussions. It's what I nerd out on. But from a macro view, the offense is decent, we're 5-1, we're a Top 10 team in the country, and we don't play anyone for the next 6 games who is good as Louisville on defense. But we still need to get a little more creative. I really hope this isn't the approach from the staff. "Well, we just didn't play well and Louisville is good on that side, so we'll just keep doing the same **** and since the teams we play going forward aren't as good, we should be fine". No. You've played 5 games, and you've been elite on offense in one of them. The other 4, you didn't even get 6 yards a play. That's not an anomaly, that's a reality. Last year we had ONE game all season where we didn't average 6 YPP. This year, not only have we not gotten to that number once against a P4 team, we had 2 games where we didn't even get to 5 YPP. It's not good enough.
Man I feel you…!!!

I went to college as a WR (and baseball too) so like you, I’m looking at that offense closely and I love watching good offensive play…

Again, that’s why I liked your initial thread/post…in-depth and freaking spot on, especially offensively and I’m like **** we gotta get MUCH better offensively to make any noise in ACC/CFP for 4 quarters…

At the end of the day man we gotta get better and maximize our talent on O…period

I agree, but I do think most casual fans look at the run/pass ratio and decide what's conservative versus not. You're correct, though. It goes back to my OP.

Think about this....we are #2 in America in TFLs allowed. We never get stopped for negative yardage. Yet we're 86th in YPC. Look at this. Here are the Top 10 teams in the country in TFLs allowed versus where they rank in yards per carry:

1. Texas A&M -- 27th in YPC
2. Miami -- 86th in YPC
2. Navy -- 4th in YPC
2. Ohio State -- 71st in YPC
5. Vandy -- 3rd in YPC
6. North Texas -- 14th in YPC
7. Wake -- 66th in YPC
8. Oregon -- 2nd in YPC
8. Tennessee -- 20th in YPC
10. Army -- 51st in YPC
10. Utah -- 9th in YPC
10. Indiana -- 21st in YPC

So we never lose yards, yet we're 86th in yards per rush. So every single time we snap the ball it's basically a run between 1 and 6 yards. Ohio State is the only team really close to us, interestingly enough. It's almost impressive to be 2nd in negative plays and 86th in YPC.

We also have 4 runs of 20+ yards this season, in 5 games. Last year, we had 21 in 12 games. Is it the backs? If this is all attributed to Martinez and Allen, well then you can't run the same exact scheme as last year, can you? Is it the line? If it's all attributed to Rivers and Carpenter, well then you can't run the same exact scheme as last year, can you?

I know for a fact Dawson is an analytics guy. And he's not doing that in a vacuum. He's absolutely aware of this stuff and discussing it in the offensive meetings. Nobody in that building thinks 86th in the country in YPC is acceptable. So how do you fix it? There's literally nothing this offense does right now at an elite level, besides "not lose yards". Find out a way to be elite at something, even if it means you're slightly less elite at not losing yards.
And ya know what I guarantee, Vandy doesn’t have half the talent of our O line. But they have coaches that scheme running lanes. Novel concept

I think it's time to start adapting to who you are. Last year, we needed to be the #1 offense just to stay in/win games because the defense was so bad. This year, it seems like we've completely inverted that. We know the defense is good, we don't have to be great on offense, so just don't be awful, and we'll win. That bites you in the *** sometimes.

I think Dawson needs to completely revamp the thinking and play more like we need to score 30+ to win. Go a little quicker. Get a little more creative, even if you occasionally lose yards or turn the ball over. We've turned the ball over 7 times and our defense has allowed ZERO points after those seven turnovers. They can cover your *** if you need them to, whereas the one last year could not. It's time to go into games with a little more 2024 mindset on offense. If we score 30+ the next 6 games, we're going 6-0. Figure it out.
Spot on , it feels like the majority of those procedure penalties happen with this weird lull before the snap where we’re just sitting around waiting for the penalty

To be fair they have a very mobile QB. Pavia has almost 500 rushing yards already this year. That contributes bigly to this number.
Agreed. They also open up lanes to run through. From what I have watched. We are way behind the 8 ball with our scheme
