MEGA Week 7 Games Thread

Coaches remain a big draw. Whether it’s Lane @ LSU, Prime @ Boulder or BB @ UNC. Disney is trying to avoid putting Lane on ESPN back to back weeks if they can help it, and giving LSU a chance to beat Miss State to end up back on ABC next week.

Consequently, Mizzou w/ their best player injured, their quarterback battling his former team against the backup who stole the spotlight, and Chambliss / Lacey not being heralded blue-chippers; can’t get a marquee placement because neither their coaches nor their program’s brands are considered big draws.

Auburn vs UGA (a rivalry) is the 330 game on ESPN FYI.

That’s crazy but UGA vs Auburn probably draws more casual fans eyes.

That Missouri vs Ole Miss game is big but again we need to hope for a blowout. Close SEC games are the dredge of the top 25.

Lmao - Sark just said Arch is over scrutinized because of his name. If he was Joe Smith QB at Texas he would be praised for his performances over the last 13 games??

I saw that. I liked this reply:

Solid take from BUTT SLUDGE.

Could be a tricky game for WF. I didn’t watch their entire game, but the little bit I did see their O didn’t look as clunky with the backup. That travel could make things a little tougher, like VT just learned.
Cal was without their ballhawk DB who leads the country in INTs and their top two RBs as well. Their new RB1 (really rb3) hasn’t played well at all, so a ton of props to the backup qb and new play-caller.

Cal fanbase doesn’t seem to know who will be the starter on Saturday (because JKS hasn’t been cleared yet), and the backup learned the day before which means JKS was close to full readiness. Seems like if he is cleared, there is no doubt he’s the starter.

IMO, LSU/Miss State and Ok State/Houston all have to win their games this week or they’re leaving a whole lot up to chance even if they win the rest of their slates. Very hard to pitch that win-out message at the midpoint of the season. Oklahoma State can most afford a loss because they have no conference losses and still face Texas Tech later in the year.

There was a decent amount of benefit to losing our two games, post-bye, in week 8 and week 10 (last week without the committee’s rankings). It’s harder for Lane and LSU to coalesce around the idea of winning out and still making the playoffs with that second loss coming four weeks before the committee doled out their first ranking.

A 2-loss team isn’t out, ****, a 3-loss team (given that LSU still has Texas/Alabama/Tennessee who they can knockoff) isn’t eliminated however we don’t know what the top-ten environment will look like; if two worthy G6 teams will pop up, what the new ND rule will lead to, etc.

Other teams who cannot afford a loss: 6-0 JMU against Georgia State. Pac12 looks like the most promising G6 conference for that at-large bid. Oregon State vs Boise State game may be the decider.

It’s amazing how fast the narrative can shift. Two years ago, no questioned Tennessee’s inclusion at 10-2, with a young five-star qb, Heupel’s accomplishments at UCF being apart of his lore; as they entered the CFP. If they are 10-2 this year, given the rest of their teams on their schedule, they’re not a lock at all. Their bid could look closer to 10-2 Vandy, who was ranked below 9-3 Texas.

I don’t think Tennessee is good enough to win 10 games this year but I’d consider this ‘Bama game a must-win if they want to make the playoffs. I wouldn’t be stunned if Ole Miss wins out; however, i suspect they’ll drop one game to UGA/Texas/Miss State. Therefore, I’d consider the Missouri game a must-win for them. Likewise for Missouri, they have no good wins yet so they need to get one.

Sidebar, Is Ahmad Hardy returning this year?? I doubt it. Feels like we were completely misled on a a possibility of a return.

Interesting domino effect w/ Miss State/LSU and Ole Miss/Missouri. The egg bowl participants have already beaten the other’s week 7 opponents. Their destines are tied together: both teams play Texas, Auburn, and Oklahoma before the year is over. They share 6 of the same 9 opponents, and play each other ofc.

The Difference: Miss State got: South Carolina and Alabama & Ole Miss got UGA and UF.
