Takeaways:

Obviously not much since we didn't play. But most of the numbers got better nationally, as more teams begin to play conference games. We now have a Top 9 offense and Top 21 defense in YPP...if those are the numbers at the end of the season this team will not lose more than 1 game.

I added explosive plays to the list this week because I saw a stat over the weekend that almost knocked the wind out of me....as you can see above we have given up 55 plays of 10+ yards already this season. In 3 games. That's on pace for 220 over a 12 game season. Texas was dead last in this stat last year, they gave up 216 in 13 FBS games. We're on pace for 220 in 12 games. YIKES. But oddly enough, we've only given up 3 plays of 30+ yards. And 0 of 40+ or more. We're 3rd in TFLs per game. So we're making plays in the opponents backfield, we're not giving up huge plays, but we're giving up 10+ yard plays at a sickening rate, and 20+ yard plays is better but still not good. You know what this tells me? The DL is penetrating and making plays in the backfield, and the secondary is not letting any busts occur and tackling well. But the linebackers are nowhere to be found. This MUST get better.

Other than that, things are very good across the board. The defense can and must be better, we know that, but they're not bad by any means. 5.16 YPP and under 20 points per game is going to keep you around in every game you play, and as we've been saying for 200 years, if you pair that with an elite offense (which we have through 3 games), you're going to be a pretty good football team.

Biggest game in a LONG time on Saturday night. Yes, ND was huge in 2017. But ND was #3, Clemson is #1. This is also a conference game and if we somehow win we have more than an inside track to Charlotte. I could write 5000 words on the gravity of this football game, but we all know the stakes and situation. I could very well have both feet stuffed directly into my throat on Saturday night, but I've said for a couple weeks now on this board that I do not feel this is one of the truly elite Clemson teams. They are vulnerable to a good team playing their best game. We are a good team. I KNOW that. Can Manny, Baker, and Lashlee get this good team to play their best game on Saturday night? If they can, we are going to have a competitive football game in the 4th quarter. I fully believe that. And we have a kid running the show for this team who literally came here for this very moment. He wanted a bigger stage. He wanted a system tailored to him. He wanted more talent around him. Check, check, check. This is your time, D'Eriq. The biggest moment of your life. Go play your *** off and let the chips fall where they may. If he continues to complete 65% of his passes and doesn't turn the ball over, we've got a real chance to shock the world on Saturday night. I'll be in the house, drunk, loud, and ignorant. Let's go break hearts.

3rd down conversion percentage last year was 27%.. good for 129th out of 130 teams. Our current percentage would have been good for 4th last year. Insane improvement!!

Yup. And when you filter for just FBS vs FBS games, we were dead last.

130th out of 130. 26.14%. Akron was better, and they went 0-12 last season.

They were shutout twice, scored 3 points twice, 6 points once and 7 points once. 6 of their 12 games they scored 7 or less points. And they had a better 3rd down conversion percentage than we did.

52.17%, which is what we're converting right now, would have finished 3rd nationally last season behind Ohio State and Air Force, and just ahead of Alabama.

Yeah, Rhett Lashlee and D'Eriq King were solid additions.

I can’t get over that 55 plays for over 10 yards stats in 3 games. That’s just ridiculous. And that’s vs 1 good offense, 1 mediocre offense, and 1 bad offense. Clemson will move up and down the field if we play like that and unlike those other teams they will finish in the redzone.
