Today marks the start of two months straight of CFB or NFL games everyday. Let us rejoice

Tonight we have western Kentucky vs New Mexico State (CBS) and north Texas vs Tulsa (ESPN)

Tomorrow, liberty x Delaware (CBS), the disrespect bowl of undefeateds: Pittsburgh vs VT (ESPN), and the home opener for Northwestern’s new stadium against Penn State (FOX)

Really interested in the Alabama vs Miss St game, I want to see Alabama against a pulse.

I want to see that Pitt vs Vatech game as well.

The Indiana vs Northwestern game as well. I can’t get a read on Indiana yet.

Weather reports are depressing. really wanted a fast track to exploit the QB/passing advantage we have. 16.5 point looks enticing.

UF plays Mizzou

Vandy vs UGA

Texas Tech @ Colorado

SMU hosts Boston College

BYE weeks: Oregon, UCLA, Ole Miss, OK State, Utah, Texas

Trevonte Citizen & fighting Guidrys of McNeese State play LSU

Meanwhile, the real Lance Guidry will coordinate his Memphis defense against 0-4 Charlotte this weekend. Charlotte is one of a handful of FBS teams still looking for their first win

UMass knows nothing about that. They look to stay undefeated against eastern Michigan.

WVU vs Iowa State on TNT (I guess bruh)

NDSU vs Wyoming on CW

Oregon State vs Colorado State on USA Network

Arkansas vs Texas A&M on ESPN2

College Football Outbreak Watch

Last year Miami was pretty lit up by illness heading into the Ole Miss game, which nearly cost us a chance to play for the championship.

Several years ago, Vancouver Canucks entire season after a playoff run was derailed by COVID, led to players retiring (Brandon Sutter being one), and the trade of another to Ottawa (Travis Hamonic) after a massive outbreak.

So given its pertinence, without further adieu I share the following:

So, let's just do a breakdown on if / how this might affect Miami.

0. Risk: Let's start with the zeroeth principle: Previous vaccination long ago against Mumps does not necessarily confer immunity decades later. It can't hurt, but doesn't always carry over time. Whooping Cough outbreaks in the Madison, WI area taught me this.

1. Transmissibility: Moderate if playing SDSU (which we do not). Can occur presymptomatically, through contact, through aerosolization potentially. Doesn't transmite quite as easily as say Measles (R0 transmissibility= 12-18) or COVID (R0 = 1.4-2.4), as its transmissibility R0 community measure is about 1.04. Higher is more communicable.

2. Logistical Risk: Direct, low. Indirect, also low. We are entering conference schedule play and SDSU also is for the Pac 12. Their schedule is below. There's no direct schedule interactors at this point.

3. Symptoms / Incapacitation: given the risk of orchitis or swelling, inflammation, and pain to the ********s, I would call that concerning and risk for missing games for SDSU players or anyone else on the west coast affected by this (see schedule above).

I've seen tetanus more or less settle into the testes and cause them to swell to the size of melons. Players won't be doing any running in that case.

4. Verdict: Seasonal Impact. Will this have a chance to derail Miami's season? No, I dont think Mumps will be impactful for Miami. But something worth keeping an eye on.
