Week 5 ACC Games

That missed off sides seems so highly suspect to me. GT is clearly their darling now that FSU lost.

Serious question that no one on Twitter can ever answer. If the refs cheated for GT because that's what the ACC wants, why would they wait until that situation when a four yard run ends the game?

That is the question that always derails most conspiracy theories.

Not saying this is what happened in this particular situation, but how could the referees make a game altering decision before the opportunity presents itself at a crucial moment in the game?

What I mean is if the referees were in the tank for one particular team, do you really believe that they would make it so obvious that they would make every single call during the course of the game in the favor of the team that they prefer? No, they would wait for an opportunity at crucial moment at the end of the game to put their finger on the scales. Sometimes that opportunity will present itself, sometimes it doesn’t.

Again, in this situation, I’m probably leaning more towards incompetence or a lack of courage to call a game-altering penalty in that situation (although that is what they actually did, in reverse, by not throwing a flag) than bias. However, the offsides was so blatantly obvious that it is completely understandable that people would question how on earth the refs could have missed it.

But if they were “in the tank”, they wouldn’t let it get down to four yards from losing the game while hoping for a play where they could ignore a penalty. Seriously, think about that for a second.

And people who question the integrity of referees tend to have a bet on the game or some emotional connection. That’s why we saw people on Twitter claiming that the refs were “in the tank” for both FSU and Virginia at the same time.

I’m just answering your hypothetical. When you ask “why would they let it get to that point in the first place?” it seems to imply that you believe that a ref or crew with a bias towards a particular team would just spend the entire game making blatantly obvious one-sided calls to make sure that their preferred team is always so far ahead that there will never be a pivotal point at the end of a game where they would have to act in order to influence the game.

My argument is that even if a ref, or crew of refs, have a particular bias towards a particular team, if they were smart, and wanted to keep their jobs long-term, they probably wouldn’t make their bias so obvious that it’s undeniable, but would instead wait for a crucial time at the end of a close game to act. As I said in my previous post, that time may or may not even come, but IF a ref or crew actually DID have a bias towards a particular team, I think that if they were smart that they would probably be a bit more inconspicuous with that bias than you assume that they would be.

Again, I already said that I believe the missed call in the GT game probably stems from incompetence/cowardice rather than bias. I was merely providing a counter argument to your apparent view that a bias referee with a wish to influence a game would reveal their bias in the blatantly obvious way you seem to think that they would.

Can’t say with 100.0% certainty, but I’m fairly confident that you’re not getting to Charlotte with 2 losses in the league.

NC State is now eliminated.

Same with Wake, Clemson, and BC.

17 team league down to 13.

We can kill FSU next week, and I’m 100% sure Stanford, Pitt, and Syracuse lose 1 more very soon.

9 team race for 2 spots if we take care of business next week.
