Yeah we talked about this before, our super deliberate pace this year might be in part to protect a thin front 7 on the defense (though seems we have been subbing more along the DL as of late). I do think it's much more Beck is just playing at the pace he's most comfortable at, and Dawson doesn't value playing at a breakneck pace highly anymore. Still, we are playing glacially slow. Would be neat (and probably advantageous to us) if we surprised Pitt by playing faster than they expect in spots on Saturday in a very important game.
My tl;dr take is I'm fine with the pace we are playing at (which has been glacial - 31.3 seconds over the last 3 games) when Beck is completing 80% of passes for 10.3 ypa with 8 TDs and 0 INTs like he has the last 3 games.
Absolutely. We can go back and forth on this all day but, although not 2024 Miami, the offense is good enough the last 3 games to win a national championship paired with our defense. Obviously that's somewhat ridiculous to say though because of the level of competition. I still need to see these dudes do it against a defense with actual humans on it and not create-a-players on a budget, like we've seen for 3 weeks.
Sadly, we might only get 1 more chance for that to happen, but here's what Beck has done the past 3 weeks and how it'd look extrapolated for a season:
66/83 (79.5%) for 858 yards (10.34 an attempt) with 8 TDs and 0 picks. That's a passer rating of 198.16
79.5% completions, 10.34 yards per attempt and a rating of 198.16 would all be leading the country for an entire season
If he even comes close to those numbers on Saturday, we win by 3 scores. Go as slow as you want if you're going to do that.
