Week 13 Stat Roll

Yeah we talked about this before, our super deliberate pace this year might be in part to protect a thin front 7 on the defense (though seems we have been subbing more along the DL as of late). I do think it's much more Beck is just playing at the pace he's most comfortable at, and Dawson doesn't value playing at a breakneck pace highly anymore. Still, we are playing glacially slow. Would be neat (and probably advantageous to us) if we surprised Pitt by playing faster than they expect in spots on Saturday in a very important game.

My tl;dr take is I'm fine with the pace we are playing at (which has been glacial - 31.3 seconds over the last 3 games) when Beck is completing 80% of passes for 10.3 ypa with 8 TDs and 0 INTs like he has the last 3 games.

Absolutely. We can go back and forth on this all day but, although not 2024 Miami, the offense is good enough the last 3 games to win a national championship paired with our defense. Obviously that's somewhat ridiculous to say though because of the level of competition. I still need to see these dudes do it against a defense with actual humans on it and not create-a-players on a budget, like we've seen for 3 weeks.

Sadly, we might only get 1 more chance for that to happen, but here's what Beck has done the past 3 weeks and how it'd look extrapolated for a season:

66/83 (79.5%) for 858 yards (10.34 an attempt) with 8 TDs and 0 picks. That's a passer rating of 198.16

79.5% completions, 10.34 yards per attempt and a rating of 198.16 would all be leading the country for an entire season

If he even comes close to those numbers on Saturday, we win by 3 scores. Go as slow as you want if you're going to do that.

Prior to your post I was about to say, and have said before, but dude is really feeling it. It's blatantly obvious he's improved. Thanks for sharing the stats to go along with it. And not only is Beck feeling it, but we're doing this without CJ or Tony J and for the most part not much from the TE position although Lofton is starting to come on.

If we get into the CFP I'm encouraged by 1, Beck's on fire and comfortable back there, and 2, what we saw from that defense during the NC State game. I think we get into the CFP and this team will be laser focused.

Agree 100%. I need to stress context, however:

Passer rating allowed nationally:

Syracuse - 123rd
NC State - 107th
Virginia Tech - 125th

So, I want to give him credit. He's been exceptional the last 3 weeks. But to say it's against tomato cans would be an insult to tomato cans, tomatoes, and cans. These teams BLOW on defense.

Pitt? 60th. Not exactly Ohio State, but a nice test against a decent team, and one who can rush the passer (2.2 sacks per game).

Not that I expect it to be quite this good, but if he completes 80% for 10+ an attempt and doesn't turn it over on Saturday, it'd be his best game by miles.

Number in parentheses is declined or offsetting.

Also, Texas Tech’s LT has 13 and their C has 9.

A&M’s RT, 10, RG, 8.
I do remember TTU LT having a rough game earlier this year. Had their fans beating their heads on the wall. BYU or Utah I think. Whichever one it was. Had to have 4 in that game alone.

We will see if he gets happy feet in the pocket w the rush, but I think the Oline holds up and gives him enough time. Again, just stressing he looks in much more command of the offense, which is encouraging. Win Saturday fellas!
