Week 1 Depth Chart Predictions

Harrel won't start for Miami week 1, nor do I think he is the Z WR
Think him being healthy and starting for us would make a major difference this year. I agree with you that Im not counting on it but if he did get his **** together it changes the entire complexion of the offense.

Question marks

Unless you're basing this off health, this is pretty mope-ish. Jalen Rivers has proven he's a good player. Cohen has done the same. Restrepo has done the same. Arroyo has done the same. Zion has done the same. Mesidor has ABSOLUTELY done the same. Mauigoa has done the same. Harvey has done the same. And I'm tired of typing out names.

If you wanna say we don't have 22 all-america's, I got you. But come on. How many teams in the country have virtually zero question marks? It's college football, and not only is it college football, but it's college football on attrition steroids where kids swap teams like it's nothing.

As far as the OP's list, I thought it was pretty good, but like others have pointed out, Moten is absolutely not starting. I think LT and Deen start, but I wouldn't be surprised if JHH is up at Deen's spot first.

Health and putting the right pieces together with new faces and new coaches. I forgot Mesidor. Cohen will start …if healthy

To your point, every team has question marks, I don’t think question marks is unfair for a team that finished 5-7 and brought in new pieces…

Questions can have positive answers.

The Moten prediction is based on a couple things. First, we heard some positive buzz in the spring, and he looked good in the spring game (against some backup OL admittedly but good nonetheless). Second, he is the only 1T body type we have. I recognize he likely won’t start, but LT and Deen/Harrison-Hunte is pretty small at DT, so I shot my shot with the Moten prediction.

- Harvey is pretty average, or inconsistent might be the better word. I expect Kelly to beat him out.
- Deen and Taylor inside
- I don’t think there’s a real RB1 right now - I expect a three-headed carousel until someone separates themselves.
- “Bold” prediction is Cooper beats out Rivers inside.

We're just talking game 1, right? I believe a lot of battles will go on and mid-season will be very different. My edits in Red.
Two deep only and no "OR" designations. This is your prediction of what the depth chart will be for Game 1, not what you think it should be.

QB: Van Dyke; Brown
RB: Chaney Parrish
WRX: Young; Horton
WRZ: Harrell; George
Slot: Restrepo; B Smith
TE: Arroyo; Skinner
LT: Nelson; Okunlola
LG: Cohen; Cooper
C: Lee; Denis
RG: Rivers; Cooper
RT: Mauigoa; McCoy

WDE: Harvey; Kelly
DT: Taylor; Harrison-Hunte
DT: Deen; Harrison-Hunte
SDE: Mesidor; Chantz Williams
WLB: Cloyd, Bissainthe
MLB: Mauigoa; Flagg
STAR: Couch, Davis
CB: Brown; Brown
CB: Porter Jr.; Richard
FS: Kinchens; Balom
SS: Williams; Williams

Players I expect/hope will make moves from 2nd To 1st Team:
* Kelly (to 1st Team)
* Bissainthe (to 1st Team)
[BGCOLOR=initial]* Bain (who will start 3rd team but may climb 1st Team by end of season)[/BGCOLOR]

Players I expect/hope will make moves from 3rd to 2nd Team:
* Fletcher
* Ray Ray
* Kinsler
[BGCOLOR=initial]* Jayden Wayne[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial]* Chase Smith[/BGCOLOR]

Saying "if healthy" is about the most pointless thing you can possibly say when predicting a depth chart. You can literally say that about every player. So unless they are currently not healthy, theres no need to give that asterisk next to their name.
QB: TVD * If healthy.
RB: Chaney *If healthy.
TE: Arroyo *If healthy....

I don’t get the argument. In my view, health is a question mark. Therefore between health and new unknown players battling players that contributed to a 5-7 record plus a new staff, I have questions about the depth chart…

Players were out during spring, new ones came in, etc etc

Right but what's the point of making a prediction and leaving literally like 16 players off the depth chart for 'depending on injury'. I mean you could have left every player you listed off as well with that exact same justification. It's just pointless to say "depending on health" for anyone currently not seriously injured when specifically making predictions about depth chart. Everyone already knows it's dependent on health.

It's unknown. But that doesn't stop you from being able to make a prediction. You can make some pretty basic assumptions - like IF players are healthy, what is the depth chart. And since its your prediction, you can say who you think will step up and prove themselves. It's just a guess, not life or death.

Mostly agree but I have Jacolby George starting over Harrell. Harrell will get plenty of burn however. I agree with Ray Ray running 2nd to X at slot. I like Cooper over Rivers at RG but a healthy Rivers starts somewhere. It’s much more likely that Rivers opens at LT over Nelson.

At RB it will be interesting to see who makes the rotation but the safe bet to start is Parrish. A healthy Chaney gives us a three headed monster of Parrish, Chaney and Allen with the two freshmen as wildcards.

Defensively, my hot take is the following….Nobody will keep Rueben Bain off the field. Certainly not Harvey or even Kelly. As high as I am on Kelly, I don’t think he starts yet.

At DT I like Deen next to LT to start the season but Josh Horton will come on strong as the season progresses. Watch for Mesidor and Bain to line up inside in certain fronts and situations. JHH will play a lot and Moten rounds out the depth.

Bissainthe and Mauigoa at Will and Mike respectively with depth being a battle between Cloyd, Flagg, Smith, Smith and the true freshmen. Will be very interesting to see how this all shakes out. Also there will be a third LB on the field possibly more than we had anticipated due to the talent and potential in that group. Like I said it will be interesting.

Safety is very straightforward but CB will be an all out war in fall camp. Davis/Couch at Nickel/Star is a great bet. I’m betting J. Harris moves to safety as we need more depth there. The battle at CB between Brown, Brown, Porter, Richard, Freeney and Stafford should be fun to keep track of. I can’t even make a prediction here.

This 2023 squad is a significant improvement over the 2022 version. The upgrade at OL, WR, LB, CB and even RB should be obvious once the games start. Add a competent OC with a system suited to our players especially QB and this season should be much more enjoyable than last year.

Are you sure this isn’t life or death…

Our trench play has great starting units but the depth is meh I think. Although defensive end has depth.

Safety scares the heck outta me. James hasn’t proven himself to be a legit safety and I know he was injured last year. There’s no depth there. Besides those two no one has played. Balom is clearly a good kid and stuck it out but man. If he’s in there heavily we got problems

Running back has depth and the cream will rise. End of story.

Receiver has depth but besides young and X I gotta see something. Consistent

Linebacker we heard solid things about keontra. Curious if he is above Flagg. Although Flagg may be middle and he may be outside.

I like this. I think Deen or JHH will start over Moten, if Kelly has a big camp I could see him starting over Harvey.

I hope to God Zion is healthy. Good thing Francis and Samson were here in the spring because they could very well be starting come fall.
