Coaching is light years better than weve had in 16 years

Golden would lose 6-7+ games with this squad and schedule.

With CMR, NO WAY we should be worse than 9-3, and that allows for FSU, ND and one loss to a sorry *** Coastal team

We are better than 10 of our 12 opponents

IMO, I think it may be one of the weaker Canes teams overall since maybe Radio's first season, (youth, depth, and lack of elite players in many positions) but still enough to beat inferior teams when coached up.

Well, lots of folks put their reputation on the line, backing former coaches like Fester, Radio, Folden, and of course the mastermind of the Canes Demise, Shalala, to the end. There were posters here gloating after every awful Radio defeat, "Shannon is still our coach! Ha ha!", and those who smirked about how Golden was gonna be here for years, after the Clemson debacle. They feel shame. (some, some will call for us to rehire Radio after CMR's first loss)

I wasnt real keen about CMR. Didnt think his stint at UGA was successful, didnt like how he lost to UF every year, no matter how bad they were, or how bad the coach was, etc. Thought the game passed him by,. I was spot on about Fester (I said fire him after the WVU game in 2002), spot on about Shannon (losing those UNC games, his idiocy vs California in that bowl game and I said Fire him), and 100% stone cold spot on about Golden after his first game vs Maryland. I see nothing but light years better coaching of this team after two games against bad opponents.

BTW, how come nobody talks about how thin a team Golden left us? Four years into Shannons reign, it was all Festers fault and he needed 5, 6, 7+ years to rebuild.

Five years into Foldens, it was sanctions and Shannon, and it takes 6+ years to build a team.

CMR inherited a program that was just absolutely raped on local elite players, Folden whiffed on entire units, for years. We are really a young team, with zero depth at key positions, and nothing special about most other units.

I dont expect them to beat FSU or ND. (lets face it, our supposed best position, QB, never wins these games, and Cook is gonna mock us until he goes pro. Thanks, Folden) But I fully expect us to beat the teams we are better than, which is everyone else. Any idiot pulled from the stands to coach the Canes would have won 8 Coastal Titles out of the last 10 years, at least. Worst division in all P5 football, by far!

CMR is gonna outscheme ASU bad. Even not showing everything, he will scheme so our much superior talent wins out big. The days of us looking NO better than way inferior teams are over.

No excuses? I like that! Folden and his fans had excuses before he ever coached a game.

Good post SmokeyRone. I have bashed you recently because I thought you had jumped the shark with the whole"this team sucks" schtick. You are however making sense here and it's good to see. I also shared your concerns about Richt initially. I can see you were much more averse to the hire than I was. I realized soon after his hire that a revitalised Mark Richt with all his experience would be as you put it " light years better than the coaching we have had in the last 15 years".

If the law of averages asserts itself and we stay away from injuries from this point on then I agree that we should be very capable of winning 10 regular season games. As far as ND and FSU are concerned, I agree that they have more talented roosters but the FSU game is a huge rivalry that will be played at our house and anything can happen. I don't necessarily buy the whole "well we were really close the past 2 years and should have beaten them with the worst coaching staff in the country so with Richt, a real defensive scheme and an excellent staff at home we are a lock to beat FSU" line of reasoning no matter how beguiling it may be. I like our chances obviously but there are far too many variables in play to embrace such a simple minded analysis. We'll see.

Can I trade for an 7/8 win season with a win over FSU? Turning the tide in that rivalry is the most important thing we can do

We might not need to. If we can get healthy on defense like I expect us to, we will have a fantastic opportunity at home as the Rock will be rockin'. I cannot emphasize enough how significant it will be to get C.Jenkins, Molton, Harris, Colbert and Owens back.

We don't have enough talent / depth to beat the Noles. Years of inferior recruiting classes have diminished our chances. In terms of coaching, we finally have a legitimate staff...

How long have you been watching football? We can't beat FSU, really?

Everyone who says the knew al sucked after the Maryland game is full of ****. Yes, I totally get how that game was indiciative of what we could expect from al for the next several years, but it's retarded to be like "oh I KNEW he couldn't possibly do better because we lost that game". Is that how it works? Every time a team has a bad loss it means they can't possibly do better? The coach obviously sucks if he loses one game he shouldn't?

Should we have kept al (or randy or larry) nearly as long as we did? No, of course not. But it's rediculous to say that you've seen enough after one game.

We can definitely beat FSU this season.

You guys are being swayed by how we looked against FAU.

We won't look the same in every single game.

If Kaaya lights up App St. on Saturday, everyone here will go back to saying top 10 stud. Heisman favorite......
