No, they're just incompetent morons. This wasn't some grand illusion. They just can't think critically.
FSU being left out 2-yrs ago (e.g. ACC shutout) was SMU's death penalty equivalent..."never again".

Duke closed the walls in on them and they had no choice.

If we think about it, SMU + FSU died so that Miami could live as a program.
 
I dont think the committee was planning to help us at the last minute for ratings (the payoff i assume?).

I think they were backed into a corner and the public outrage gave them no choice.
Why did they move Alabama ahead of Notre Dame for a close win over a bad Auburn team? Seem like they were just setting up the flip.

I think they did that to protect Bama in the event BYU won and Bama lost.

I dont think they care about UM at all. They simply were cornered and caved into the pressure.

Never forget that they went to 12 teams for 2 reasons. 1. to insure that Bammy is always in, and 2. to pack as many mediocre SEC teams as they can in the playoff
