We sure we don't want Ponce to stay?

I prefer the new OC be the QB coach as well. Offensive philosophy has to be connected to the QB and I think the best ones are usually QB coaches (always exceptions though). Therefore, I would part ways with Ponce.
With the added bonus (or perhaps removing the self imposed limitation) of freeing up a spot for a WR coach

I’m very sure.

Here’s some questions:

Name a QB that Ponce has developed into a NFL draft prospect?

How often have a Ponce coached QB thrown for 3,000 yrds in a season?
I liked what he did in an overall sense as OC and I'd hate to give up on him if he really was handcuffed by Gattis. We really don't know all the inside story and I was hoping Ponce could build that career and be a solid contributor for us.

Hey, whatever we gotta do to fix this O, I'm all for.

I can’t say I have ever focused on other qb coaches across the country… only the ones at miami. But I think you would be hard pressed to find a qb coach anywhere in the country butcher a room like ponce and Gattis did this year. Pre season top 5 qb rooms in America according to some pundits with the reigning acc rookie of the year leading it and this is the product we saw at QB….. on paper it might go down as the worst position coach performance I’ve ever seen at miami. And I agree it doesn’t all fall on ponce but still is at the top for me

I'm open to anyone but Gattis and Steele being retained, with the caveat that the new OC and DC want them to stay.

I feel everyone should be let go but at minimum bring in two studs coordinators and let them evaluate everyone themselves as well and full control of their position coaches.

I think he was handcuffed. I hope he gets another season. I think he really could be the goods, but wasn't in a position to succeed. Thoughts?
The goods at what, exactly?

I want the entire O side to be purged and replaced with a staff that has dudes that have worked together in the past. A solid core of at least three guys that have a working relationship, not just some dudes with name recognition that were afforded because Pappy opened up the wallet. If we're paying top dollar, let's poach someone's staff ASAP.

What has he done from an overall sense as an OC?

I promise u, I’m not being a prick or an @$$hole. All I’ve seen from Ponce is poor QB play under his entire portfolio of tutelage, and his offenses ranking from the 50’s, & no higher than 30th.

I wanna put this all on Gattis, but I’ve already highlighted in another thread that every QB under Ponce have been mediocre, & that includes Cunningham at UL. Brice had the most success passing yards wise under Ponce, but he had a high T.O ratio, too, which is another bad characteristic of a Ponce coached QB.

I would like him far away from that room, as well.

So he's going to fire himself?

Ponce is close to Big Manny correct?

As in 2d to Mirabal right?

Hard to see Ponce remaining on staff, even with him being one of Mario's trusted friends/employees.

Only two and maybe 3 that I can see making it through the off-season....RB Coach Smith, TE Coach and OL Coach Mirabal.

Let the new OC/QB coach pick his WR coach.

Cunningham had His best seasons under Ponce, and Brice was a JAG before He got with Ponce. I wouldn't mind if Mario gave Ponce a look, my only concern is Ponce's recruiting.

With respect, who knows and who cares, IMO. Join the rest of the modern world and let coordinators who are expected to lead the unit pick most of their own guys.
Lu, that's the case sometimes but not necessarily how it's done. Hard to compare to an operation like Bama but O'Brien didn't bring his own staff. LSU Kelly, his OC didn't either.

Even when we finally modernized our offense with Lashlee, he didn't bring his own staff.

Imo we go and get someone like Dan Mullen as QB coach to run the offense and let him hire his WR coach of choice. Now if Smitty and Field don't want to get with what the new OC is trying to do, which I doubt would be the case, then Mario and OC can jointly hire a new TE/RB coach
