We need to get off Blake Baker’s ***

Surprise, surprise, the area where we are struggling the most is in pass defense where we are young and trying to recover from losing 3 franchise guys to the NFL.

Side note: We also need to get off Jarren’s ***. Kid is top 25 in nearly every statistical category, including yards/attempt despite all the *****ing about the deep ball.

The difference between this team being 4-0 and 2-2 is the OL, period. Expect to see Enos use a game plan more similar to the UNC game plan going forward, which was a very well called game.

Edit: Removed S&P+ ranking as that was a 2018 stat. 2019 S&P+ isn’t available yet.

A little late, but stats don't matter when half of your games were vs high school teams.

The double team of the DEs is because we don't have the upfield penetration of the DTs. If you get that, it becomes a numbers problem for the OL.

You talk about a relentless defense that’s aggressive at getting after the QB. Well, that’s exactly what Baker called on 4th down. The secondary let us down.

Not sure what you were watching but on that 4th and 17 we definitely were not in relentless pursuit of their QB. We had 3 guys on the line and they looped and played sum patty cake contain type crap.

Ok say what u want... I know what I’ve been seeing week in and out so far. Nobody for the most part has been even attempting to get upfield penetration. Our Defensive Ends have been in coverage or contain on far too many obvious passing downs.
 
It's gonna be hard for the fanbase to bounce back psychologically from 4th & 17, rightfully so. Just let garvin and shaq attack/play to their strong suits and ease up on the zone a bit and the D should be solid.

Garvin is top 2 or 3 in the nation in QB pressures.

Then you need to play closer attention. Most times when the DE is playing contain, we're trying to get it by sending an extra LB on the inside. Sometimes we add a safety/striker on a delayed blitz.

I get that part man but I’m talking about our D-Line. We need to take that out of the playbook or at least not do it so much as far as dropping our D-Ends into coverage. We’re solid enough up front to apply pressure with our front 4. Hill & Garvin should be feasting and have 4+ sacks each right now but they’re being asked to do everything except what they excel at which is rushing the passer. Also just my opinion but Hill should be a starter opposite Garvin

So, of course, if you allow us to do it, we’ll do it.” Garvin quote from the Herald. He got his first sack after finally being allowed to rush the passer more as opposed to weeks prior. That’s all I was saying.

I 'd agree with that. I didn't mind it against UF where Franks was a legit threat to run (he couldn't do much else) but enough is enough. Garvin was playing contain more than being in coverage. However, the defense I like the worst is the preventless 3 man rush. That has to be stricken from the playbook.

What's pointless is the rest of your argument. So in my haste i overestimated the distance. It's still a blitz from 15-20 yards away on 4th and 17. Makes zero sense. Double A gap makes more if you want the QB to p!ss himself and unload early for an easy tackle and turnover on downs.

This. Give the qb the least amount of time possible. It wasn't 4th and 7. They had to run some longer patterns to get to the sticks. Get in the qbs face immediately and force an early throw. Double A gap blitz or some sort of overload blitz would be best. We picked the slowest developing stuff out of our playbook (safety blitz and stunting dline) because "it worked earlier in the game". Hello situational football. Pick the right blitz and end the game.
