We need to get off Blake Baker’s ***

Can’t pin 4th and 17 on the OL. Diaz was top 5 in sacks, TFL, 3rd down defense, and havoc rate. Blake Baker has regressed every facet of the game and isn’t utilizing our playmakers in the pass rush.

LOL...again, the blitz had absolutely nothing to do with them converting. There was a coverage bust from a young secondary in their second game of the season. Simple as that.

The blitz allowed him to have the time to wait for that throw. Yes the coverage was messed up but if they just blitzed right at him instead of all the fancy stuff, or rushed 4 in their regular lanes, it could have rushed his throw and not converted. These delayed blitzes and long looping zone blitzes make no sense. It takes too long. The quickest path to a point is straight at it. We get too cute at times.

We don’t have the DTs we had in Manny’s first 3 seasons and our Secondary is young. Kind of matters.

Except these blitzes have a pretty solid track record of working. If the coverage had not been a mess, it would have worked again.

We have moderately talented DTs and elite DEs. Baker just runs a different thing and it’s sucks. Miami’s defense use to go on the offensive and attack, create turnovers and 3rd and longs. Just seems like Baker doesn’t do any of that, with his 3 man rushes and spying DEs into coverage roles.

It’s situational. That isn’t the situation to bring a DB from the next county over. You delay blitz a backer to come off a DL stunt or a similar safety blitz from the box. This was poor design, poor execution, and poor judgement in calling it.

If Manny was calling the defense I guarantee we wouldn’t have given up that 4th&17. We’ve gone from a relentless defense who pressured QBs and made plays in the opponents backfield to a defense whose elite pass rushers are now cover guys on passing downs🤦🏾‍♂️

Call was fine. Simple reason, the coverage was good minus one single problem. Bandy. He dropped the ball, all on him. He was the weak link on the play and if he's in position, the play ends with a sack or ball thrown away.

When the play was called, the last guy you expect to ***** up in the secondary is Bandy. Yes, blitz could've come quicker or from another spot, but the that changes your coverage. Since these was nothing wrong with the coverage, besides Bandy's play, what's that tell you?

Lastly, good throw by their young QB. Stood in there and delivered. He made a lot of good plays that day.

Blame for 2-2 record

1. Diaz
2. Enos
3. Jarren
4. Oline
5. 4th and 17
6. JTs muffed punt

Edit: Baxa between Jarren and the Oline

Boys, we have missed massively at CB for 4 cycles. We have one highly recruited DT and the hype of manny Diaz turning to largely be false at other position groups (see lies about the OL) doesn’t inspire confidence on the true freshmen (hope I’m wrong but trust and verify).

Look at @Lance Roffers metrics on our CBs. None were elite athletes. Those guys are at OSU, UGA, and Bama.

I’m not surprised we regressed as the talent well dries, but the coaching and scheme are now worse too. Bad times boys.

Gil was basically in the box at the snap. He was 5 yards off the ball and just a shade outside the tackle. Hardly the next county over.

Wrong again. The main difference between any Manny defense is upfield penetration by our DT's. They don't require a double team like some did in past years at times. This year, our DE's have seen two lineman / TE more than that ever have.

LOL...what happened on the 2 plays immediately preceding 4th and 17...consecutive sacks.

You talk about a relentless defense that’s aggressive at getting after the QB. Well, that’s exactly what Baker called on 4th down. The secondary let us down.

I don’t care what anybody says, this defense is actually very good. There are certainly some things I’d like them to do a little differently, and it’s not championship caliber like the 2018 defense, but it is a very good defense.

Total Defense #13
Yards/Play #15
Scoring Defense #17
Rushing Defense #6
Yards/Rush #5
Rushing TDs #13
Passing Defense #49
Yards/Pass Attempt #47
Passing TDs #20
Sacks/Game #29
TFLs/Game #12
Opponent 3rd Down% #4

Surprise, surprise, the area where we are struggling the most is in pass defense where we are young and trying to recover from losing 3 franchise guys to the NFL.

Side note: We also need to get off Jarren’s ***. Kid is top 25 in nearly every statistical category, including yards/attempt despite all the *****ing about the deep ball.

The difference between this team being 4-0 and 2-2 is the OL, period. Expect to see Enos use a game plan more similar to the UNC game plan going forward, which was a very well called game.

Edit: Removed S&P+ ranking as that was a 2018 stat. 2019 S&P+ isn’t available yet.

I rewatched our CMU game and we actually played pretty aggressive and got pressure. Some of the completed passes (2 on Ivey) he was right there. Still issues with LB and Safety’s covering WR but that’s kind of the game now.

He was 8-10 yards off, goes right in to a lineman who isn’t engaged. Horrid call horrid execution.

We don't have a true 3 tech at tackle. Maybe Nesta provides it. On most passing downs we're not getting inside pressure unless we send a LB. It changes the whole way we call the line.

we dont have a disrupter this year. ford and bethal arent bad but they arent disruptive.
