For being stupid enough to hire Haith (who probably is fired by the end of the season).

You do realize Shalala was happy as a clam with Haith and his program, and he would have been here for life, and we would be in the bottom half of the ACC now.

'ere's to you, Missouri!

I've been saying it, my man, this team has multiple losses if coached by Haith.

I think we lose the close games and any game where we won it in the first 4 min. i have never seen a Miami team make those kind of adjustments at half to come out as hot as we have in the 2nd.

This is untrue. Shalala was not happy with the progress Haith was making. It was well known privately. She wasn't about to fire him right then or anyhing, but there was a belief we were stagnating.

Just because your President is smart enough to support a coach in the press and not undermine recruiting doesn't mean you have to believe it.

The bolded part doesn't make a lot of sense. I think Haith would have been fired, I just think Mizzou did us a big favor.

I still cant believe they did that. He has zero connections to the Midwest, we hadn't achieved anything of true significance, and he was not a hot commodity. Huge, huge favor if you add in the Shapiro stuff that was revealed a few months later.

Well known privately... at the least? I can't speak to what anyone didn't know, but to say that Shalala was "happy as a clam" with Haith, as the other poster did, was factually incorrect on many levels. My only point!:-)

I hear ya, I just thought it was termed funny.

Just like Shannon was "privately" out of favor. Shannon would still be here if not for the fans and their ZERO attendance for that last USF game.

That 2,000 total attendance was what fired Shannon, not his benefactor.

Haith wasn't going anywhere.

BTW, "happy as a clam" was just an expression. What I meant by it was "Haith would not have been fired by Shalala".

Haith was going to be on the hot seat last year... one tourney appearance in 7 years wasn't going to cut it. The fans were starting to turn against him, as well. Also, isn't it the AD's call to fire a coach? I'm sure that President Shalala has a lot of input on the big decisions, but it's not like she's making all of the decisions for the athletic director.

He was a highly-touted assistant coach at Texas, so he had connections to the Big XII. Mizzou didn't decide to leave for the SEC until months after Haith had been hired.

Haith and Shannon would not still be here. You have an ax to grind against Shalala, that is clear, and has been for years on here, which is your opinion, but it leads you to say some ridiculous things that simply are not true.

Smokey is a hardcore wingnut (you know I use that affectionately with you SR:-) who can't see the forrest (Shalala is a GOD SEND for UM) through the trees (she was in Clinton's cabinet) and rips her all the time.

SR, please, give it a rest. She's one of the best Presidents in the country. And she's done more for sports than any Pres we've had in our history. Go check out the new Schwartz Building... and may the Schwartz be with you!

LOL! She hired Shannon. She belongs in the hague on charges of crimes against humanity for that alone.

I have to agree with Smokey. Football was our golden goose and the only thing that got Shannon fired was donations and ticket sales plummeted and that's being kind. If we squeaked out a win against USF that day, I'm not sure Shannon would not have gotten fired.

Haith, I have no idea, but I didn't get the impression anyone in the administration cared one way or the other if our basketball program excelled or not. That "privately" comment reeks of "I'm connected and you're not" so who knows if its true. The only thing we do know is that Mizzou did us a huge favor and we thank them for it.

So you are making an absolute statement as if you have inside knowledge about the only reason Shannon got fired (first bolded part), and then condemning someone else for giving you inside knowledge about something (second bolded part)?

Interesting. You do realize what you just did, right?:-)

I am sharing something with you. I am not an insider. I have no desire for anyone to believe I am an insider. In fact, I wouldn't even say that what I said IS inside information. Just that what Smokey said was completely wrong and misguided.

We know return you to the Bill O'Reilly program. Enjoy!:-)
