We have a serious DC problem on our hands

The AD didn't want to pay the money for a Wartime Consigliere at DC like Clemson or OSU. You want to play with the big boys these days, you have to pay Major Money for a top OC and DC.

Miami is still in Richt Land, although Manny won't admit it.
You know this how?

Could be a case of Miami being Miami and hiring a coach that wants to hire all his buddies.

I like Rumph - he’s a technician and I think he should be coaching all DBs (plus safeties)

But I agree with your premise. Id keep Rumph, move one from everyone else and hire 1 ST coach and 1 stud DC.

The learning curve is too big for Baker. The jump to Miami is just waaaaaaay too big for him. You can see it. He needed to go to someplace like UCF or Vanderbilt as a mid tier move to learn at one of those schools before jumping to this level.

Miami needs to poach outstanding DCs from other P5 programs, not from a low tier program like Louisiana Tech.

his guys got torched by the slow UNC WRs.

Manny must make an executive decision and snatch playcalling away from Baker.

This is not the same defense we’ve grown accustomed too. This defense looks like the “bad manny” moments from earlier in his career and when he first started here.

I don't get good vibes from this defense at some points of the game. I understand we're thin on players. It showed because it seems like they ran out of gas at the end of the game. With that being said 2 games in I'm concerned with the D.

We were on the field for 20 minutes at that point.

This DC gave up 28 points in about 25 minutes of game action, against an offense led by a true freshman QB.

We dominated the time of possession

He would have called the same coverage on 4th and 17.

Manny loves that telegraphed edge blitz from far out that never hits home.
This. I’m as ****ed about the 4th & 17 play as everyone else, but this is Manny’s defense. What we are seeing is an inexperienced (or just plain bad) secondary get exposed when our DL doesn’t get to the QB. I think we miss Willis, Redwine, and Jackson a lot more than we thought we would.

It’s unacceptable that he’s even seeing the field.

In all seriousness, after Carter got the targeting and Bolden not approved, who was going to play? I saw Keontra in there some. Obviously Hall was in. I honestly would have liked to see Finley move back to safety and Frierson at striker given how awful we were getting beat to the edge.

In any case, that’s a reflection of Manny and Panda’s recruiting over the last four years for not having the depth ready to step in.

Might be right here. Agree, this doesn’t even look like the defense we have come to know the last couple years in terms of style either

Baker has made some head scratching calls, but the talent isn’t there this year compared to the last two seasons. The LBs are the same and at best are average. Shaq’s next play will be his first.

Where are the McIntoshs, Norton’s, or Willises? Our DTs haven’t made a play in two games (Jordan Miller flashed by the way maybe he should be getting Bethels reps). Our DEs aren’t producing either. The front 7 has put stress on the back end, and we all knew the front 7 needed to live up to its hype for this defense to be successful.

But, take out the first quarter (absolutely atrocious and unforgivable) the defense gave the team a chance the rest of the way minus 4 and 17, and the last two drives where UNC imposed their will on our defense with their run game.

The problem is not just that simple..culture is broken. I watch other games and I see similar plays were guys hit and tackle in worse manner than us and get no infraction, a Miami player does it and the refs are standing on their backs.

I agree with this to a point, but Baker is overmatched, man. He’s not experienced enough and completely unprepared to call plays at this level of football. Dude came from Louisiana Tech!

He’s learning in the job and that can happen when you’re the DC at Miami....especially when the HC is inexperienced.

Manny needed to have a strong and experienced DC on the defensive side of the ball, from a P5 school, to mirror Enos and what we have on the Offensive side

For example, look no further than the University of Maryland. They have an experienced OC and experienced DC to help anchor and stabilize the new HC.

Baker is a major weak link.

Where are they? Gone with Golden. The days of elite recruits coming to Miami on defense are long gone. Manny can't recruit to save his job(literally).

Seems like a nice guy, but I think Miami was too big of a jump for him. This was Pat Nic like play calling but on the defensive side of the ball

Some of the play calls tonight were frightening. 4th and 17 blitz, without having 7 dbs on the field??!?!?! Wowsers
Made no ******* sense. That is on Manny as well. He's on the headset listening. He can jump in and say, "That's too aggressive. Let's play dime cover 3. Force them to throw short and make the tackle to end the game.
