I'm a numbers guy. I like to look at the # of 4/5 star players on each roster to get a sense for how talented a team is.

I'm not a big believer in X's and O's or anything like that. I think stacking chips and signing great recruiting classes is 80-90% of the war.

So that said, when I've looked at the numbers (which you can see in the 'stars matter' post on the recruiting board), we are a strong close in 2018 and a top 5 class in 2019 away from being title contenders.

It's within grasp.

Maybe not when our best 3 guys on O are healthy.. but depth wise it's not even close. We need several more elite classes. Coaching staff isn't good enough to win with less IMO. Let's all hope Perry is for real.

Wtf are you talking about? We won 10 games with Malik Rosier at QB, no mark Walton, no Ahmon Richards, no back up running back, no back up TE, a corner playing safety and Robert Knowles as a primary back up. That is called winning with less.

We were 1 game away from a perfect regular season. When was last time we were even this relevant to the college football scene?

Granted, Malik wasn't perfect, our OL is pedestrian and we aren't nearly as deep as the big boys but we still found a way to be better then we've been maybe for the last 15 years. That says more positive about the coaching staff than negative. We'll get deeper next year and we'll get more out of the QB position.

I expect to be in Clemsons grill next year. I don't see anymore 38-3 beatings in our future if we remain fairly healthy at certain positions.

The people who think we are elite are the ones that only watch our team play and so overate every player on our team.

We have more talent than Wisconsin and Pitt. Being "elite" is not the problem it's too many periods of inconsistency

We do have more talent than Wisconsin and Pitt......the problem was, those two teams had better offensive lines, which led to very average QBs being able to play easy pitch and catch. Of course, those average QBs were likely better than our QB, too, but that's beside the point. Being stronger up front is an equalizer for teams like that. Our speed isn't going to help us if we can't get to the QB, or stuff the run.

I also agree that we don't have anywhere near enough talent compared to the top teams. We are doing better than we have in many previous years, but it's not there yet. Also, it was obviously a massive problem that we lost our top 3 best, most talented players on offense. Maybe Alabama and Clemson can afford to have that happen to them, but at this point in time, we can't. Speaking of which, it is time for me to eat some crow, because back when Walton got injured, I said that Homer is just as good and that there will be no dropoff. I was clearly wrong on that.

Lol Clemson only wins with 5 players offensively.... their qb Kelly Bryant, their all purpose star Ray Ray McCloud, WE Deon Cain, RB Travis Etienne, and some times wr Hunter Renfrow.

You act like Clemsom has this rolodex of athletes they're beating teams with every weekend?? We have just as much talent if not more the only difference is they have a star QB and we don't. So we are already their just need to find a star QB fill in some wholes, continue to develop and if Coach Richts program is elite we will be able to win those games real soon.

With "ONLY" 5 players offensively. LOL

Thats not the point I was making.... the only thing that separates that 5 from us is their star QB who is one of those 5 players mentioned. The rest wouldnt even start on our team if we were fully healthy.

I'm stunned that anyone actually believes this to be true, especially a Miami fan, given all the evidence to the contrary. Xs and Os are just as important as recruiting, see Pitt and Wisconsin against Miami as prime examples.

Until you go to a recruiting list and see Miami's U logo next to guys like Xavier Thomas and Stephon Wynn while stop overthinking the Chatfields and Oladeles of the world and getting the Dennis Briggs of the world while also being in the mix for some other savage DT from Georgia or Mississippi or Bama, we ain't gonna be close to elite. Just the way it is. Its an arms race for big savage MFrs. You either get them or you don't. Getting one or two just ain't good enough. Getting three or four for one year ain't good enough. Need a steady 3-4 every year.

When Miami starts closing on the elite crop of DL recruits, then we can talk. Until then...guess we gonna have to enjoy the Orange Bowl, Citrus Bowl, Lemon Bowl, Lime Bowl, Belk Bowl, whatever.

Qb makes all the difference this is the same uga team that was 8-5 with Jacob Eason as qb last year. You surrounded the team with an even better qb who can make more throws look what happened

Do me a favor and go look at the game log from Fromm this year. There were some games dude had like 15 or less attempts and UGA won by 35+ points.

UF, the team UGA had struggled against FOR YEARS mainly because of QB play, threw the ball 7 times and completed 4 passes and won by 35+ points.

Iowa Western is a JC located in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Just across the putrid Missouri river from Omaha.

You guys do know that we are playing COLLEGE FOOTBALL here right? This isn't a track team, or a high school all star game. There is more to 'talent' in football than raw, end to end speed. The ability to catch the football in close quarters is considerably more important than your 40 time just as the ability to get skinny and work through an EAT block as a D lineman is far more valuable than your max bench.

I'm not sure how you can watch that game, played at your house, in which UW did exactly what they wanted (40-20 TOP, 3-1 TOs, Taylor 130 yards at 5 per carry, Horni 4 tds 0 int, dominated 3rd downs on both sides of the ball, etc.) on their way to a two score victory and conclude that Miami was more 'talented'. Miami would have won a track meet, no doubt, but UW clearly had the better football players. We tackled better (and harder), gave our QB a perfect pocket all night, caught the ball in traffic while Miami consistently dropped balls or couldn't even get near them, and completely controlled the tempo and pace of the game after the first 12 minutes. The one designed bomb you executed all night resulted in 0 YAC because our DB was stride for stride with your burner and immediately contested the catch. Van Ginkle was the best player on that field as he effortlessly ran down your skill guys and made big play after big play. Take off the U flavored glasses and watch the tape. UW probably had 20 NFL guys on the field for the Orange Bowl, and they controlled the game.

Star rankings are not a real thing. They are a commodity sold by vendors on the internet and are crafted to maximize their profit. They aren't something that any (good) college coach pays any attention to at all. Can a player play and does he fit into the culture and scheme of the program, that is what they care about. 247/rivals/espn only gave him three stars? Never mind, pull his scholly, only 4 stars allowed at our university!! They hold no weight the minute kids get onto a college campus and start putting in work. UW has the 4th most wins since 2007 despite averaging around 35th in recruiting rankings during that same time. Star rankings are fools gold. Can the guy actually play and thrive in your program? You remember JJ Watt toying with your 4/5star O line last time we played you guys right? Enough said.
