We are not close to elite

Please read. We need more elite players. We don’t have enough to compete with the top teams. Do we need more elite players to beat teams with inferior talent?[/QUOTE]

Inferior talent like Clemson or 13-1 Wisconsin with 10 of 11 defensive starters that are seniors? Yes. Pitt i will grant you.

A few things:

1. Wisconsin has/had inferior talent and they showed it before the game.

2. Pitt, UNC (2016) and VT (2016) all had inferior talent as well.

3. Do we need more elite players to beat teams with inferior talent?

We're not out of touch with the rest of the nation, unless you count Alabama. That team has maybe one struggle game per season and invariably the naysayers swarm, trying to pretend it's the nearing the end of the Saban era, or that Alabama is finally retreating toward the pack.

It is comical ignorance. That team is physically superior to the nation, other than Ohio State, which can line up with them. Alabama demonstrates it at the outset of every season. Check the lineup. They have taken on a name brand team on a neutral site to open every season. Those games are physical massacres. USC was on the receiving end last season and Florida State this year.

The pocket is destroyed. Short passes are destroyed. That's what Saban prioritizes, while the rest of the nation is too busy with tinkerbell offensive schemes.

I have to say I love it. In the mid '80s through late '90s I was not always a fan of those specific NFC teams that were brutalizing the AFC cupcake teams in 13 consecutive Super Bowls. But it was salvation football. The AFC thought it learned something via the '83 draft and taking all those quarterbacks. Meanwhile the NFC continued to stock up on physical brutes and relentlessly exposed the AFC year after year. I was profiting and laughing. Then the rules makers took that all away by coddling the passing game.

Likewise the college football elite are preferring the AFC route, the lazy route. You've even got purported coaches here salivating over the gingerbread offensive approach. I despised Nick Saban with the Dolphins and I still despise his personality. But he has saved college football. Otherwise the morons would be in charge and only a few of us would be correctly insisting that a well stocked physical and defensive minded team would be shattering the cupcake teams.

Federer won his only French Open by avoiding Rafael Nadal, who was eliminated earlier. That's the only path available to the Canes right now or the foreseeable. They need Alabama to be out of the way in a given season that the Canes happen to threaten the playoffs. Ohio State would also be a problem and a likely defeat. But Urban Meyer is prone to personnel mistakes and more dependency on offense than Saban.

I'm not worried about Georgia or other programs reaching Alabama's level. Those teams think they know what it takes to get to that level, to be irate when any opposition play succeeds.

They have no idea.

People complain about the staff? really? last year they turned Njoku into a 1st round pick. when they had upperclassmen with talent in the secondary they were on beast mode. RJ Mcintosh, Jaquan, etc have all show alot of development. We have a problem with depth in key areas. Its just the way it is. I have always been willing to give richt until 2018. its common sense.

They didnt turn him into anything. Infact ..it took Richt half a year to figure the kid was a legit threat.
Our coaching is lacking just like our roster. We have a Bunch of wet behind the ear coaches.

We need more than ten seniors on the roster.

really? Njoku looked way more fluid under the new staff than the old staff. spare me.

What a miserable ******* group of people. Holy ****.

None of you even went to Miami, just go be Bama fans, who cares

If we had a a competent qb this last season at Miami at worst we only lose to Clemson

problem is that we got manhandled by Clemson ... who got destroyed by Bama

Transient property of college football right. We must be worse than UCF then because they beat Auburn.....who manhandled Bama.

ucf would boat race us worse than clemson did

They have a incredible coaching advantage

We're not close to elite largely due to where we're at in the trenches compared to other top programs. The OL cupboard was close to bare when the new staff arrived and they've done really well recruiting reinforcements.

But they arrived with more DL talent at their disposal than they've brought in heading into Year 3. Powerhouses like Bama/Georgia/Clemson are not only far more consistently dominant up front, but that's where they're getting even stronger with their current elite classes.

We're not stacking chips along the DL like elite programs do. Unless and until that changes, winning the Coastal will be our ceiling. Clemson dominated the line of scrimmage against us on both sides of the ball and they just got bullied up front by Bama.

I’m glad we didn’t have to play UCF in the Bowl. We are not even the best Fl team right now. I think we are a good team , 12-14 ranking sounds about right. And agree we are not close to elite. Watching yesterday’s games, you can see the difference in physicality, discipline, and execution. Richt s first real class isn’t even on campus yet. I think we are 2-3 years off from elite, if we continue to recruit and develope.

Better get used to having very few SRs every year as the top JRs jump to the NFL abd some others leave as grad transfers.

Anyone who truly understands football already knew that Miami is a to 15 team. We are not elite and it’s obvious when you watch/compare to other teams. We are heading in the right direction coming off two terrible coaching hires and probation. Anyone who thought we were elite, were lying to themselves. We have glaring weaknesses in some areas, especially depth. Richt is two more classes away from competing with the big boys, so temper yourselves and just enjoy the ride.

The people who think we are elite are the ones that only watch our team play and so overate every player on our team.

We have more talent than Wisconsin and Pitt. Being "elite" is not the problem it's too many periods of inconsistency

We do have more talent than Wisconsin and Pitt......the problem was, those two teams had better offensive lines, which led to very average QBs being able to play easy pitch and catch. Of course, those average QBs were likely better than our QB, too, but that's beside the point. Being stronger up front is an equalizer for teams like that. Our speed isn't going to help us if we can't get to the QB, or stuff the run.

I also agree that we don't have anywhere near enough talent compared to the top teams. We are doing better than we have in many previous years, but it's not there yet. Also, it was obviously a massive problem that we lost our top 3 best, most talented players on offense. Maybe Alabama and Clemson can afford to have that happen to them, but at this point in time, we can't. Speaking of which, it is time for me to eat some crow, because back when Walton got injured, I said that Homer is just as good and that there will be no dropoff. I was clearly wrong on that.

Lol Clemson only wins with 5 players offensively.... their qb Kelly Bryant, their all purpose star Ray Ray McCloud, WE Deon Cain, RB Travis Etienne, and some times wr Hunter Renfrow.

You act like Clemsom has this rolodex of athletes they're beating teams with every weekend?? We have just as much talent if not more the only difference is they have a star QB and we don't. So we are already their just need to find a star QB fill in some wholes, continue to develop and if Coach Richts program is elite we will be able to win those games real soon.

With "ONLY" 5 players offensively. LOL

How many are they supposed to win with on offense?
