We are not close to elite

After watching those games yesterday it is obvious we are not close. We need OL and DL talent and depth along with a QB. The QB we may have on our roster and we have recruited several OL players that may still pan out but we are thin at DL and only have one committed this year.

Until we can fix these lines we will get man handled. The skill positions we have players which makes us think hey we may be closer.

Its on just players, it scheme. Yesterday you saw 4 of the best teams in CFB right now and their offense all looked the same. Pre-snap movement in-order to create mismatches and get players in space. Misdirection to take advantage of skills players abilities. These are things we really didnt see this year. My hope is the team was too young and RICHT didnt want to throw too much at them..... REALITY is our OC's arent creative enough! JT4 is a player we NEED to get the ball to. And not only on deep routes. DeeJay has the physical tools to be special for us. And those skills can be displayed in a variety of way, not just lined up behind or at the side of the QB. Watching those games today makes me believe we really need someone outside of the UGA family to have some say on Offense. Its nice that RICHT plans on travelling around so he can keep up with everyone else but thats never been the MIAMI way. We invent! then REINVENT!

I agree that DL is crucial, especially the DT position but we are closer than you think. Big plays have always been the Miami way. Once we start making more and turning them into points the delta on the lines between us and the chemically enhanced teams we not matter as much. Two monster DT are crucial but speed is the key everywhere else.

We got spanked by Clemson but we came within one game of the playoffs with some of our best players out, little to no depth, 11 games in less that 80 days, and a QB playing way over his head. We had WI and let them back in. It was two picks and a pick six we dropped that was the difference not their lines.

For me, Mark grabbing the refs was important. What he is missing is overt fire. He had it before ND game and look what happen. He defaulted to nice guy crap after that and look what happen. Laying hands on refs is a clear sign the man is tired of not winning and maybe, just maybe, not going to take it anymore. Players love coaches that stand up for them. We need more of that stuff from Mark. Smart taking his players to the NC has got to stick in his stomach. Let's hope he goes all Old Testament on everyone next year.

Anyone who truly understands football already knew that Miami is a to 15 team. We are not elite and it’s obvious when you watch/compare to other teams. We are heading in the right direction coming off two terrible coaching hires and probation. Anyone who thought we were elite, were lying to themselves. We have glaring weaknesses in some areas, especially depth. Richt is two more classes away from competing with the big boys, so temper yourselves and just enjoy the ride.

Scheme would help but without a DL you aren't stopping the best offenses in CFB. Also without an OL you could have Tom Brady taking the snap and he would not have time against any of those defenses (minus Oklahoma).

People on here are expecting a ACC championship next year. I'm here just hoping we can be a team of physicality. I'm just hoping we can actually curb stomp UNC, GT, UVa, and Pitt because if I was a fan of those teams I wouldn't think Miami was in no way shape or form was ready to run away with the division for years to come like Clemson or Georgia.

If I'm a UNC fan playing Miami doesn't scare me at all next year.. from a UNC fan perceptive they were horrible and had 1,000 injuries and still almost beat Miami. From a GT fan perceptive if they bat away a luck tipped catch they beat Miami. Pitt fans aren't scared because basically dominated the Miami game.

Basically what I'm saying is we didn't separate ourselves from other coastal teams (even the bad ones) like UGA did in the SEC East. UGA was FAR AHEAD the best team in the SEC East. For us a lucky bounce here and there and we won the division. Winning close games isn't a sustainable formula and TRUST ME I KNOW FIRST HAND because I'm a Dolphins fan. The Dolphins were sneaking by some of the worse teams in the NFL last year my dumb *** thought that was something we could build off and now we're picking 11th in the NFL draft.

Agreed, although we made improvements, we are a few classes away. Size, speed, toughness and awareness needs to improve. Appreciate anyone that wears the U on their helmet, but there are a few that just are not up to the level we need. If they are the best we have, and we do not have replacements, or enough replacements in the class, that should be the sobering thought as to where we currently are in the football hierarchy.

To me, the divide is not necessarily in players - it’s also in coaching.

If we had a a competent qb this last season at Miami at worst we only lose to Clemson

It is not just the players... look at the staff... we are 2 generations away.. our assistants look like high school dropouts compared to those teams..

Special teams ... wow.. we are not even on the same planet.

As I said in another thread...watching both of those games is like I'm an poor black inner city kid going to the all white school to see how they do things...instead of it motivating me, it just discourages me.

We aren't even close to that level of football.

Whether its personnel or its schematics or the quality of staff we have, we just aren't there. We can win the Coastal...we might even win the ACC on occasion, but we aren't competing with that level of football and the result would be comical if we tried.

When I see our first two classes under Richt filled with a low-end 4-star DT and a 3-star DT along with three 3-star LBs, I know its still dark and the dawn is far away. Meanwhile, Alabama has three 4*+ DT in this class alone, another three last year.

This is an arms race and we are clearly behind.

I am not worried about getting the right players ... it is the lack of quality coaches that is appalling... Special teams???? beyond horrible

I’m glad someone else gets it. But but but but others will say our 3 stars are the best in the county cause they are from Florida, or stars don’t matter! Yes their are cases where that is true but the reality is, more often then not that the high star players end up being better. Look at the NFL drafts top 2 rds. It’s packed for of 4 & 5 stars even though those kids each make a very small percentage of the total amount of kids who play college football.

It is an arms race at all levels ... players and coaches
