We all knew where Charlie was going, didn't we?

I think it is possible that Mario hired Steele and Strong as stop gap types, tough as nails coaches who would help weed out the bad apples.
No, he hired strong because Steele wanted his morning coffee buddy. The odd couple FBS version.

mario had a younger candidate in mind that was well known but he opted to stay at UGA. mario courted him at oregon and miami.

steele was a backup option. he wasnt a bad candidate just old. the d was also screwed a bit bc of our O and lack of recruiting by manny in certain spots.

strong as a positon coach was fine. he wanted to be a DC and felt a certain way when mario didnt give him a look. i said it in that thread that the market spoke of what they think of strong as a DC. hes done.

Those who accused Strong and Steele of coming here to be on permanent holiday were not far off.

one got a huge upgrade in a job (bama DC is far better than UM DC) and the other became a water boy

Whatever went wrong with Steele wasn’t for lack of effort IMO. Just doesn’t seem like that type of guy.

But some said we should have given him the DC role. No one wants this guy as a DC.

Charlie doesn't seem to want to be a DC either. Take a cushy analyst role, or coach up linebackers at 62 years old. Hasn't called a defense since 2009 and is sitting on some nice paydays from Louisville, Texas and South Florida. Dude doesn't even really need to even work at this rate. The life of a failed head coach....
