We’re Projected to be Underdogs for the Natty

It’s not a terrible take. It’s called my opinion.

You must not have watched that team play too many times. They have the best coaches in CFB, and way less talent overall (according to their overall team composite score) than their opponents. Yet they still have blown out almost everyone that they’ve played.

Our Canes will not only have to play clean, but they will have to control the clock and score TD’s consistently. Their D is 2nd in the country overall and also in points allowed. Their D scheme involves overloading one side with exotic blitzes and complex stunts, which have given almost every OL that they’ve faced fits. They also don’t show you their defensive looks until very late, so it’s hard for opposing QB’s to quickly identify what it is that they are doing.

Their offense is methodical with the running game, but hits on lots of big plays with the passing attack. Both of their RB’s are strong and fast. They also specialize in throwing back shoulder passes to their big (PAUSE) and athletic WR’s. We are hurting on the DB front because of injuries, which is a big disadvantage for us. Plus Lucas will be out for the 1st half of the game, which will make it even tougher.

Can we win this game? Yes.

But we will need to play our best game of the year by far. Indiana will have to make some uncharacteristic mistakes as well. But that’s why they play the games on the field.

I’ll be pulling for my Canes, as I’ve done for the past 42 years that I’ve been a fan. But we have a very tough mountain to climb this time.
In 15 games Indiana’s offense has only lost one fumble all season and before last night their defense had only committed 11 penalties all season. To that end, I agree with you that they’re an extremely well coached team that doesn’t hurt themselves. We’re going to have to play our smartest game of the year, not just our most physical. I had a vision that we go to OT tied at 21, Indiana gets the ball first and we hold them to 0 points after missed FG, then Fletcher runs it in on first play.(Mario wanting to get the ball closer after our kicker had already missed one).

Canes win #6, baby!

Like my boys McFadden/Whitehead said: Ain’t no stopping us now

They are a good team. As we saw last night Oregon was able to do some things but in the end couldn’t get out of their own way. Spotting them 28 points off turnovers. As with our defense, once you’re up 21, the D line pins their ears back and gets up field. Allows the DC to get aggressive with their play calls. Also Oregon was down to a backup RB. Imagine us going into the final with Pringle as our only back available.

Offensively, the rare times Oregon got pressure on Mendoza he looked like a different QB. A couple of times their OT got beat clean. They are very efficient. Like any offense they play in front of the sticks. They’re not 2019 LSU hitting 30 yard plays at will. They only accumulated 370 yards of offense and like us play at a slow pace.

Come out, stop the run and get pressure on Mendoza. OSU Curry had a career day against them, 2 sacks 3 TFLs 7 tackles. K Jackson also had a sack. Guys who did nothing against us. Conversely they got 5 sacks on Sayin as we did. Also throw in J Smith was still coming back from injury.

I love that Oregon got blown out because it’s Oregon. That said I don’t take much from last nights game. PSU, Iowa, and OSU all played them tight. OSU gave up 6 points failing to take the FG on a 4th and 1 at IUs 5 and then missing the FG later to tie.

Is Indiana very good? Yea. Are they beatable? Absolutely. To win it’s not going to take some flukey plays for us to win. It’s going to take an OSU effort on both sides of the ball. Play in front of the sticks on offense. Run the ball. Limit negative plays and take points when they’re there. Indiana scored 56 points last night not because they are some machine but because Oregon spotted them 28 points off turnovers then shut down after they got stuffed in the 3rd on that 4th and 1.

This is a fair and good post. I agree that they’re not unbeatable. But we will definitely have to play a clean game in order to win.

Also, Moore was definitely cheeks last night. But their D also made plays. Our OL will have to be locked in and we will have to run the ball down their throats. They get away with a lot of stuff in the back end of their defense. Their DB’s get away with lots of holding and PI. Running the ball and exhausting their defense is a great recipe for a Canes win, along with scoring TD’s instead of FG’s.

Keeping Mendoza and that offense on the sidelines will be key. He’s a rhythm QB. If he cannot get in rhythm, we have a good chance.

That would be a glorious outcome, brother. I hope that your vision comes true.

Fuqem…home field is a *****.

Terrible take.

the toughest team on both our schedules was a common opponent- Ohio State. IU won by 3 due to a missed Ohio St FG , and Jeremiah Smith was hurt. We played against a healthy Smith and won by 10.

Miami wins if it plays a clean game like it did against Ohio State. Indiana doesn’t need to have an off day for UM to win. If both teams bring their A game, Miami is going to win. We have the superior size, talent, athleticism.
The stakes were also much higher for our game. They knew they were getting a bye, and at worst a #2 seed in the playoffs if they lost to Indiana. Really, nothing on the line at all.

If they are perfect, why didn't they rock Ohio State worse than we did? I see them, like Ohio State, trashing a pitiful conference.

Say what will about Cristobal but he has proven over and over again he is a big game coach. It’s the mid-season games against middling opponents that always trip him up as he can’t get a bunch of college kids to remain laser focused for 13 straight games. This is what non Canes fans (and tv talking heads) don’t understand about this team.

Miami was locked in against TAMU and OSU. We were dogs- double digit dogs in the latter game. It wasn’t luck; we played almost mistake free football because that’s what a focused Miami does. I KNEW we would have a let down game against Ole ****- we were the favorite, narrative was they are a coaching mess, they play FAST, and UM players would undoubtedly be already thinking about the home game for a natty. Attrition and lack of discipline caught up.

Indiana will get the same focus as OSU. We don’t make the unforced errors and it comes down to who has better players. You know the answer to that.

The variables are health and officiating. If Miami gets everyone healthy (and the Lucas targeting overturned before the game), we win by at least a TD.
