Way too early look at potential 2018 Roster

b - FSU will be the acc favorite next year for everyone outside our fan base. We are not there yet.

Why? Because Francois will return? They are likely to lose anywhere from 6-8 defensive starters, depending on how many guys bail. Their OL returns 4 starters who are very average. Their best WR is as likely to leave as he is to stay.

We'll likely return 7 (arguably 8 because of all the snaps Mahoney/Gaynor are getting) offensive starters. We'll return between 6-8 starters on defense and replace Chad Thomas with the deepest DE unit in college football. If Norton or Mcintosh stay, Willis returns or we pull a JuCo DT, they should be very concerned coming to our home field.
Because as far as the rest of the country is concerned - hence my statement "outside of miami fans" - FSU has out recruited us for the entire duration of the current roster, with the possible exception of next years true freshmans class.

They are currently in re load, not re build. Guys leaving may not mean their team gets worse. This is the benefit of perennial top 5 recruiting classes.

And yes, Francois going down probably costs them more than a game or two this year, maybe our own but that is an unknown.
If a few guys decide to bolt together, I think they're in trouble. For all their recruiting class rankings, they forgot to load up on quality OL.

And if a few guys decide to bolt for us - e.g. mcintosh/norton/willis, we are running ryan fines out there for significant burn next year, or depending on a true freshman.

I've worked Norton and Mcintosh as early departures already. Even if Willis doesn't return, I think we find a JuCo and potentially run out Ford (who has actually looked good in limited snaps and will get more), Bethel (still improving, but making plays), JuCo, True Frosh (which I hate), and probably someone like DJ Johnson on passing downs in the Chad Thomas role.

It's not ideal and I hear you, but I think you're giving them too much credit for their recruiting classes. They'll potentially lose 3/4ths of their Dbackfield, 2/3s of their LB unit and possibly 2 DL.

Well until that Juco receives an offer, you shouldn't be penciling anything in there.

Either way, I didn't say I think they are the favorites, you are seemingly making all these points that I am already aware of as if you missed the qualifier "THOSE OUTSIDE THE MIAMI FAN BASE", which is not inclusive of me, but inclusive of the same people that thought they were the third best team in the country to start this season, that look at their recruiting rankings and don't pay attention to things like attention to specific pivotal positions. People that value Francois very highly.

It could even be Clemson to start the year. My point is, I doubt the perception of our depth and talent OUTSIDE OF MIAMI FANS has us the favorite to start next year.

Holy crap.. We are 6-0!!! Can we enjoy THIS season first.

Please feel free to scroll past this thread.

Apparently some folks can appreciate the current season AND be super excited about what many believe will be an even stronger roster next season. As a moderator, I typically see these threads during the BYE week. (not the BYU week :topsy_turvy: ). Since we dont really get a bye week, I guess the 1-6 UNC game week is the best chance to think about this stuff. lol
Miami fans cant walk and chew gum at the same time

**** I scraped my knee just reading your post.

couple things,

1 - Would be really nice to get a couple GOD **** LINE BACKER COMMITS so we can push the Owens and Smiths of our roster to seek playing time post graduate somewhere that could give them some run.

b - FSU will be the acc favorite next year for everyone outside our fan base. We are not there yet.

CIS Logic smh

Which, the irrefuteable LB part, or the part where you probably didn't read the whole sentence and think I am of the opinion that FSU is better than us?

Yeah a true freshman group of linebackers is going to push our what will be veteran senior lbs like Mike Smith and Darrion Owens off the team... how??

And FSU is going to be the ACC favorite "for everyone" bc We are not there yet but a 2-4 FSU team is though?? Smh lol again this level of logic i cant understand smh

Really?? Come on man, where has that consistent top 5 recruiting classes got them this year?!?!? We are about to run the league, get used to it!

People still obsessing over FSU? Lmao. They are going on a big down swing, and it will be glorious. People still care about their recruiting rankings, yet it is obvious when you watch them that they have a huge dearth of playmakers.

Richt needs to get our DTs back if they are going to be 3rd round picks or worse. That’s how you build a machine. We’ve had guys like Dan Morgan and Ed Reed play their senior years. It would be nice if some of our future third round picks do the same. Use Kaaya as an example.

Move Carter to LB PLEASE. We need his toughness at LB in terms of hard hitting and physically at LB. Carter is a great tackle and a thumper. Replace McCloud with Carter. We need to run more of a 4-2-5 scheme. I've given up on McCloud tbh. He didn't impress me last year as a Fr. (I didn't understand the love affair for him when he started all year and only had like 30 tackles) maybe I'm overreacting but McCloud's job need to be up for competition right now but I don't think Perry, Owens, or Smith can beat him out. If we close with the DB we have committed put Finley and Carter at LB because they will be to slow compared to Hall, Jobe, Frierson etc to play DB on this team.

McCloud according to sports-preference is 14th on the team in tackles with JUST 14 total tackles and he has started every game this year. What is worse is I've probably seen him miss about that many tackles to.
Did you see Carter on the wrong end of the hit stick by Cuse's 185 rb this past weekend... Zach will be fine... playing on Sundays

Teams that re-load rather than rebuild don't go 2-4

both our dts aren't going the 1st few rounds. how many times does a team lose 2 jr dts and they both go in the 1st 2 rounds.

Did Kaaya and Yearby go in the first 2 rounds? Didn't stop them (any many others) from leaving early.

And does anyone out there consider those good decisions? Those are the exact horror story examples that help get others to stay
