Watching the U 30 for 30 on ESPN 2

God I miss those years. Changed the landscape of college football.
Museum....... I will say though that in the last hour living in BAMA (where Im always wearing canes gear) I had someone (in their 20s) dap me up and said they are a canes fan. Which ****es me off even more bc if we had a competent administration we would be contending year in and year out. The brand might not be strong in south Florida, but in pockets of the US it is still strong and resonates.

Those days are probably gone forever, TBH.

Waiting for somebody to mention Alabama before Saban, OU before Stoops, USC before Caroll. Acting like those teams are comparable to a program that nearly shut down 40 years ago, and was aspiring to the “glory days” of Andy Gustafson.

I don't know if they're gone forever but I'm thrilled that I experienced and fully savored those years. People in Las Vegas would treat me differently when I'd come back to town after attending another bowl game for a championship or near-championship. The Canes were indeed cool.

One roommate of mine was a fellow Canes fan and so brazen he actually flew to the 1988 game at Notre Dame without a ticket and talked his way into the game at the Will Call booth. He got in line early on game day and once it was his turn he said he had a ticket awaiting from Mike Sullivan. He gave his name and naturally there was no ticket in his name from Mike Sullivan. But as he watched the lady flip the envelopes he saw her stop briefly when there was a ticket from Sullivan. My roommate caught a glimpse of the name upside down. It was some long name like Ziginski. And not even a male. It was a woman. My roommate played it perfectly. Instead of interrupting right there he allowed her to flip and flip the envelopes. Just as she was saying sorry there's nothing here for you my roommate calmly said, "That Sully. What a dumb*ss. I bet I know what he did. He probably screwed up and left it in my wife's name. That's how he knows us. Her name was Ziginski."

I was dying when he was telling me this story after returning from the game. He said the lady paused and didn't know what to do. She flipped to that envelope but tried to shield it from him. Then he said, "Yep, I'm almost sure that's what old Sully would have done...Ziginski."

She hesitantly handed him the envelope. He matter of factly thanked her. As soon as he got around the corner he dashed to the gate and into the stadium.

Both of us agreed we would have loved to have been at that Will Call window when Ziginski did show up.
