Watching early commitments is fun... but only commitments from around now forward will become more predictive of those will will sign for 2021.

If you look at the players we signed in 2020, there were only 2 commitments* (that never decommitted) who were committed before this time last year: Dominick Mammarelli (3/31/18) and Don Chaney, Jr. (2/3/19)

It took until 4/29/19 to start getting unwavering commitments who turned into signers, beginning with Tyler Van Dyke.

I still watch the "too early" commitments. It's enjoyable. But it isn't very prognosticative.

That said, I personally think taking early commitments is not an awful strategy. It helped lead to Mammarelli having some theoretical momentum to join, and eventually led to the eventual return of Avantae Williams (originally 2/2/17) and Elijah Roberts (6/9/18).

*Note: Willie Moise (3/1/18) would/will be a third "unwavering" success story, but, as of yet, he is not signed.

Coaches did a good job on selling our 2020 class on not taking any more visits after committing philosophy last year. Hoping that continues going forward into 21'

PS. Wonder if those bags were still worth it.

That is a fair assessment of us. But how does that shake out across the board with every other school. Given that astronomical amount of decomittments we have compared to other schools im not so sure it is always that way.

I havent looked at how many decommitt from their early pledges but plenty of schools have early committments.

Miami needs to decelerate the recruiting process anyway so I’m fine with how everything is transpiring. Slow it don’t a bit this time of the year

This may be a spin off to it's on thread, but Miami was pretty strategic with who they extended an offer to last cycle and maybe that's by design

I stated earlier this year we shouldn't take any early commits until after Summer, there were quite a few people who disagreed with me understandably but the fact still remains the more we take early commits the more we'll continue to lead the nation in decommits by a wide margin.

This season in particular, I'm fine with being late to the commit party, still send out offers & continue to stay in contact recruiting every prospect on your board, but I think people underestimate how much more power we'll have on the trail if we fúck around & actually start winning this year.

If we strung together a win streak & pulled off 10 wins this season you'd be shocked to see how many kids would be jumping on the bandwagon.

I'd much rather be the hot team with momentum that's grabbing all the recruits attention due to a good season, than be a placeholder team that has to hold on for dear life while we sit back & get all our best targets plucked off last minute.

Ultimately, it really doesn't matter when you get an early verbal, come crootin' season Dec-Jan everybody is looking around & reevaluating their options.

If we win the Coastal this season we'll be snatching up legit prospects left & right, and for once we'll be the team doing the poaching & causing flips instead of getting played like we normally do.

I agree. I think qb may be the one exception as the need for a solid prospect is paramount and great qb prospects are in limited quantity. I'm totally in favor of Paradise camp to start accepting commitments from kids we like, want, and seem less likely to drop us.

By the time you get to 10 wins theres only a couple weeks left of recruiting before ESD

Perfect.

That would mean we wouldn't have any decommits & everybody we're going to get by that time would be locked in.

What you don't want is a bunch of early verbals in March/April/May/June etc only for them to decommit in September/October/November.

I'm not saying we shouldn't accept any commits until we get 10 wins, I'm saying on the road to having a winning season it would strengthen our selling points on the trail.

If we load up on early commits before the season starts just go ahead & start the countdown on decommit watch for most of'em, that's the reality.

That list, it's crap. A list like this depends recruits saying they've been offered. Schools aren't extending a commitable offer to that many recruits. Clemson's reported numbers are right around where I would expect the elites to be.
