Wasted - best defense in country, arguably best ever at The U

We played terrible teams, I guess it evens out with the ineptness of the offense, I can't name a really good offense we faced though. Hard to compare to the older teams. This is arguably the easiest schedule we may ever have. Ever. EVER

That a great point. I just did a quick comparison and

2010 - 42 teams averaged 400+ yds per game, 30 averaged 6.0+ yds per play, 42 teams averaged 30+ points per game
2018 - 69 teams averaging 400+ yds per game, 51 averaging 6.0+ yds per play, 60 teams averaged 30+ points per game

And that's just 8 years ago. 20 years ago would probably be a huge difference
Just for the **** of it, I checked NCAA stats from 2001
43 teams averaged at least 400 yards per game 3 teams averaged over 500 yards per game
33 teams averaged at least 30 ppg 5 teams averaged over 40 ppg.

In 2018:
60 teams average at least 400 yards per game and 10 teams average at least 500 yards per game
59 teams average at least 30 points per game 13 teams average at least 40 points per game

Scoring is way up across the board. The style of play and rule changes have all but made those incredibly dominant defense of the old days a thing of the past. Even the best defenses today still can get lit up. We just saw Michigan's #1 defense in the nation give up 69 points to Ohio State. Ridiculous.

2001 defense didn't have this offense or ST. Wait for the NFL production. Better DL on this team than that team. Better overall LB on this team than that team although that team had the best ever. Better DBs on that team but Johnson, Redwine, and Michael Jackson will be NFL studs.

If you believe that, you seriously need to go to youtube and watch the 2001 team. Not against the average teams, against top ranked teams that year. FSU, Cuse, Washington, VT. Heck, they held two of those teams to a total of 7 points (cuse/uw). They were top 15 teams when we played them. FSU was a good team and we stopped their unbeaten streak at home by whipping that a$$. VT was close only because Coker took his foot off the gas.

Don't get me wrong, our D this year was very good and fun to watch, the 2001 (and 1991) D's were at a different level against top teams.

Things will only get worse from here barring a major shakeup. It's over.

Not even close to best d ever. If we played an sec schedule we would have a top 20-25 defense and 2 or 3 more losses. We made horrible offensive teams with less talent look.... well what they were horrible. We gave up more points to fsu than 7 other teams that they played.

Let's see how high any member of this defense gets drafted...

Can you believe that? Look up every stat. Then think about the help they got in the other two phases.

How utterly maddening is this?

Our defense performed this well with an atrocious offense and an atrocious special teams. Could you imagine our defensive dominance if we had a punter that could flip the field? Or an offense that functioned at even an average level without so many self inflicted turnovers or 3 and outs?

This is by far and away the most frustrating Miami season I've ever experienced because of how unreal and special our defense has been. Just wait until you see the NFL production of these guys.

We are screwed if we lose Diaz. His salary should be doubled with the promise of leading the team. I have no doubt he'd bring in an offensive guru as OC.

If Richt doesn't hire a dedicated ST coach, he's beyond stubborn and should be fired on the spot for failure to perform the most basic of duties.

EDIT: Usage of word "arguably" was done for a reason.

I like our defense but comparing it to our old defenses that made top team pee themselves before and during games and then pee blood after the game, make you sound like Manny’s mother.

Best D ever is a big stretch. They played at a high level and we should feel real encouraged with the player development on that side of the ball.

Been saying this the last 6 weeks......yes are D is good but we have not faced any Offensive teams that would scare anyone either. That said.. i think the only game where our D looked bad pretty much the whole game was BC

LOL I remember my first beer

03 defense is far superior to this one

01 had at least one hall of fame player on it, maybe 2

ray lewis and warren sapp were on the same team in the same years.....

let that sink in

Could that have anything to do with the an all-time atrocious Offense like the one we had this yr? Name me another MIA elite defense, that ever had to carry an Offense that was ranked 90th in the country?? I don't think you quite understand/realize how demoralizing it is for a Defense to have to play inspired/motivated football, despite the Offense being so inept.
