Washington 2000

I hate making these historical comparisons. We were a pre-season top 5 team in 2000 with sky high expectations. Everyone knew we were loaded and deep.

Not to mention the Washington team we lost to went 11-1. This UF team has at least 3 losses ahead of them and possibly more.

If you want to say “you can lose the opener and still go on to have a good season”, then fine. I think a Michigan 2015 comparison is more realistic/optimistic scenario.

Did we know Butch's Canes were Butch's Canes the day after Washington? No we didn't **** stain.

They grew into that team after growing pains in 1999.

My point is hopefully this team grows from this as we have a legitimate chance to win 10+ games before facing Clemson.

Don’t rewrite history. That 2000 team was ranked. This one isn’t.

Saving grace is that JW is a baller.

^^^THIS

Everything is a comparison these days—even when it makes no sense.

That Washington game was YEAR SIX under Butch Davis, Miami was #4 in the nation and travelled all the way to Seattle for an early-season game. Dorsey also started the three final games of 1999 and played well in enough in the Gator Bowl to push Kenny Kelly towards baseball.

This was the first game with a new head coach, new offensive staff and system and a r-freshman quarterback in his first start; 1-of-3 in his career (Savannah State) in one game last fall.

That said, that 2000 team got jobbed by TPTB and ended up stomping the Gatah, so perhaps there’s a silver lining?

If you wanna go back in history, I’d say this game closely resembles those sloppy 2005-2006 opening games against FSU

Until I see points off turnovers and multiple sustained 80 yard drives against teams we should be throttling then I’m in the same ole sht train.
I also don’t want to here any bs about not showing the playbook. I was on that cmr holding it close to the vest illusion as well.
A lot of positives. But **** man they basically dared us to beat them twice.

Let's hope this game was like the 2000 Washington game where the OL was bad and Dorsey was a deer in the headlights yet still could/should have won and then we got our **** together for an epic three year run.

I thought the same thing.

Please, please, please don't do this.

This team is not the 2000 Canes. Not even close.

If anything, last night looked more like the 2005 opener vs FSU.

That’s true. But I just don’t want it to be like the Canes teams of the last few years either. It needs to be trending in the right direction, which we will soon find out.

Come on dude , this is a horrible take. We’re dropping more games , sorry.

Sad, but true.

Given the Dumpster Fire up at Tally, there’s no way we should drop a game against Free Shoes, but we might. Same with VaTech, Pitt, and Virginia. These guys aren’t to the point where they know how to win yet.

Someone made a thread saying never compare JT4 to santana moss.
LOL I was rewatching this game and he fumbled the punt just like Thomas.
All great players make mistakes and we need to relax a bit

Please... this was the worst OL performance i have seen outside of the one protecting Frank Costa versus Nebraska at OB

Love the enthusiasm, but do you know what that 2000 roster looked like compared to what we have now, especially in the trenches???
