Improve athletics. Simple as that. Shot up academic rankings between 2000-2010 and had a surge in applications. Why?

Highest UM has gotten is #38 in USNWR:

UM Ranked No. 38 in U.S. News ?Best Colleges? | News Releases | University of Miami

This was right before Shapiro broke. A lot of the US News rank is based on peer assesment; up to that time, the Presidents and Provosts of other national U's thought Donna had created a "New Miami" and banished the "Bad Miami." Shapiro story broke and went on forever (thanks Marky Mark Emmert and the NCAA Funky Bunch) and the Ivory Tower academics proved to be as shallow as ditch diggers; the 'narrative" of Miami always being "Bad" was reconfirmed.

Miami sits at #51 with the negatives since #38 being a less favorable Student to Professor/Lecturer ratio and a lower class rank of admitted students (a real tough nut since a lot of Miami's Freshman have great grades, but go to private schools with tough competition) and a crappy Biz school dean compared to the former Wharton sourced Dean. Positives include more $$$ (which would be even more if athletics were succesful), a Harvard sourced President (think Academic Ivory Tower people), better incoming student test scores and and an admission rate going back down (school over enrolled for $$$ last couple of years).

Its a crapshoot chasing US News rankings unless Frenk kisses every other U president's ***. He has to do that, get athletics making $$$ (i.e. WINNING), fix or sell Donna's Ceders disaster, get Miller and Jackson on the same page, reduce enrollement and admission rates while increasing Academic Scholly's and admissions outreach to a true national scope (your selling MIAMI for God sakes!)...THAT will improve the rank.

Stop listening, start doing; get inside the OODA loop!

The problem is, we want to be a top 20 school, but the schools that are currently in the top 20 are so entrenched there, that it's **** near impossible to change that.

We will never be Duke, we will never be Stanford, we will never be Johns Hopkins, and as soon as the dumb *** administration and the BOT realize that, the sooner we will be good at football again.

As much as I'd like the value of my degree to improve, I am realistic about it.

I totally agree, however your timeline doesnt make sense. 2000-2010? Since winning in 01, we've been steadily declining and getting worse, with shannon going under 500 in 07 and being canned in 10. If our academics and applications have improved since than it aint cuz of football
