Walton says he was cleared for OB game

“I was projected to play in the bowl game but I didn’t want to play because my decision was still to come out,” he said. “I didn’t want to risk anything playing in a bowl game and then get hurt again. I could have played in the bowl game if I chose to.”

Porter wants the emotional response, but the pride of Emerson College isn't getting it. Does "projected" mean he was 100 percent? Projected by a Doctor? PT? Trainer?

Nice try to bait us Matty, but we are not going to take it. Walton was a warrior when healthy and nothing but respect for him.

how soon was he "cleared" to play if he already declared for the nfl? he couldn't play anyway. it's a moot point. he declared weeks before the game so even if he was "cleared" to play a week or so before he still couldn't have played.

“IF” Mark was healthy and believed he could make a positive difference in the game, then there is an argument that he should have played. My argument would have been…If you play at the level you did before the injury or hopefully surpass that level of play then the NFL injury questions become moot and your draft status will significantly improve, thus the need to buy a much bigger truck to transport the money you will make.

Walton was all ‘old school’ Cane and without question would have made last year’s offense significantly better (even the appearance of a better offensive line). I truly believe that with his participation the Pittsburgh game would have had a different outcome. And during his playing time he also made the overall team tougher/better due to leading by example.

Let’s hope he regains his health and plays on Sundays for many, many more years to come.

look walton wasnt making a difference. he is not that great. last thing he needed was to reaggravate his injury.

Dummies trying to stir up **** over a hypothetical situation that couldn’t have happened.

Look; I’m not faulting him for not playing. He’s still not 100 on March 3rd.

We had that game until Rosier gave them life w that int and the refs became Kin to Stevie Wonder.

As long as Rosier was back there, we had no shot. As long as our DBs refused to turn their heads around, we had no shot. As long as the refs refused to call holding or PI on Wisc, we had no shot. So why jeopardize a kids lively hood on something that was pointless?

c'mon, we get a td or a PI on that play and its 21-3 and that game probably plays out different. rosier didn't play great, but, that wasn't on him there.

Would he have been in game shape tho? It’s different if he played most year, missed last two games and came back for OB.

According to this interview...

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I understand he wanted to avoid injury to protect his NFL status. But on the other hand, you join the team to play and compete. It’s a team sport, and you put the team ahead of yourself.

I’m sure some of you are thinking, especially after reading the article, that he needs to provide for his child and younger sibling. I agree; but the NFL is no guarantee. He can also finish his degree and find a career that would also provide for his family, with more certainty than the NFL.

Again, I am truly torn as to whether I agree with his desire for self-preservation or see that move as self-centered. I’m curious to see where others fall on this issue.

Much ado about nothing...Gordon Hayward @BostonCeltics is ready as well, but you don't see them trying to trot him out there.

Wouldn’t have made a difference.

Rosier sucked and our DBs couldn’t cover a soul.

To our db's defense, they saw one of their own carted off, that has to be tough and always in the back of your mind. We are not mentally tough enough YET to overcome that kind of controversy.

This whole sitting out thing originated around Clowney after his sophomore year. Im not a fan. You could get hurt slipping off a sidewalk curb. Also the school could take out insurance policies.

At the end of the day some kids are just here for the money and they are going to do whatever they think is best.

It will be interesting to see where guys like walton, norton, and mac land and what rounds. We have an endless list of guys that leave early that could of benefited by staying another year.

Actually the first time i heard about it was mid 90s at UGA..forgot the linebackers name, but he didn't play the bowl game,.and he was healthy..talking to people in the program at the time, i found out why he didn;t play.. so, yeah, it has been going on for a lot longer than clowney...but the clowney thing made the news.

No reason to try and play...he wouldnt have been much help plus it was against a ranked team. His 3.5 per carry average wouldnt have made a difference

Kid gave it his all EVERY single down. One of the toughest kids you'll ever see. Kid bleeds orange and green. He's running down field and hitting guys left to right, knocking dudes out on special teams, give me 53 Mark Waltons on my NFL team. I bet my team beat the living **** out of anybody. GTFOH questioning this kid OP.

Frank Gore tore his first ACL, came back, then a short time later tore his other one.

Look at the Sam Bradford example.

Melvin Bratton.

Etc. Etc.

It was a meaningless Bowl Game. If it was the CFP, then maybe thats something to get your **** in a flutter about.

But it wasnt. Relax.
