I like the "momentum" answer. But going further, you got Miami program "tainted" a bit by that NCAA sneaker payola scandal (unfairly of course.) A top recruit has to be leery of signing up; comments can be made "you going there blah blah blah?". So if Walker sorta breaks the ice, it may just feel a bit better to someone like VCareyJr. And one also likes to go to a team with some chance of a good season; if the team has ballers signed on (Walker, etc) that can't be a minus.
