Walk me through jet sweeps - what is the purpose, when is this best time to use them, how often are they effective?

I’m starting to think that they are only good in situations where you have a lot of possessions and are running down the defense. Now you get the defense running left to right and they get gassed.

Also seems like they need to be incorporated with tempo so that you are going against a tired defense.

Other than, that, do they ever work more than a few plays a season?

If we are only running 51 plays and it takes us the entire play clock to set up, are jet sweeps going to be effective?

They are useful as misdirection to set up other thing for offense. You actually use them to keep defense guessing on motion and to pull safeties.

Well, generally when a commercial flight comes into an airport, the cleaning crew rushing in to clean up. Time is short, so they kind of "jet" through sweeping the cabin and exit quickly.

We huddle every play and allow that dline to catch their breath, atleast in this game we did.. We milked the clock every play.. You can still run it as misdirection and get big plays from it

Add on to that our 3 most explosive runs (2 to deejay and 1 to cam Harris that was called back) came off of a fake jet sweep type of play using martell as a decoy

I wish I could get the clip. Someone on Facebook has the clip of DJ long run looking right at that side. You see Martel come in motion for the jet sweep, causing the DE to jump to outside allowing a giant hole for DJ to run through. It was also the same thing on Williams TD run. If not the DE can close off the middle and stretch the play to the sideline.

somebody has to account for him. Mostly decoy but can open up the middle of field. I imagine can also tip off what kind of coverage (man or zone?) You hand off every once in a while to keep them honest.

Watch the rams offense, they put a guy in motion every single play to make it look like a jet sweep, keep the LBers eyes in the backfield. Sometimes they will hand it off, sometimes they will fake it. But defenses have to respect it, guess wrong and they’re going to go over the top on you.

Not only that but they’ll do a jet sweep fake to a play action pass from under center. That offense is a beauty to watch.
