Some Notes/Thoughts/Questions heading into our Game against VTech

1. How are we looking on Health? We have:

OL - Justice O
C - J Clarke
TE - E Arroyo
WR - K Smith
RB - D Chaney
CB - T Stevenson
LT - Z Nelson
WR - J George

All these players either got Banged up against UNC or were banged up prior. Any time frame/game status for any of them?

* side question * anyone know how Virginia Tech is looking injury wise for this week?

Notes: Our defense in the last 2.5 Quarters really got it done for us. 2 TOs, several sacks and I believe only 6 points allowed to a VERY good offense and QB at UNC.

BUT…So so so many missed opportunities on offense…from the goal line at the 2, J Knighton fumble (I don’t think he can be a in the tackles RB anymore, he’s a receiving back and in space and that’s it.) our missed FG, our terrible last play call/time management in the end of the game. That’s MINIMUM 9-12 points we left on field that should’ve been GIMMES. Same happened at A&M, we need to fix this ASAP.

Penalties: iv honestly been pleasantly surprised on how we have done in the Penalties category so far this year. We have not been kicking ourselves in the *** in penalties like in years past.

Thoughts: I hate to say we are better than our record but the truth is we are. Looking at our losses I see them as follows:

A&M - Muffed punt, 2 missed FGs, very stagnant TVD - that’s a 13 point swing (which would equate to a W) we did NOT just simply get beat by A&M because they were the better team.

MTSU - turnovers & 3 blown coverages, let’s be real That whole day was an anomaly. Our 3 first half TOS, getting dropped at the goal line and THEN allowing an 98 yard TD? outside of 3 blown coverages MTSU didn’t even have 100 yards passing (non existent ground game as well) it was an embarrassing day but TOs and blown coverages were the name of the game that Saturday

UNC - Blown coverages, TOs & FGs. Notice a trend ? Same reasons we lost the last two weeks are why we lost this week. 2 missed FGs (6 points), 1 blown coverage (7 points) and 2 TOS (minimum 6 points) that’s a 19 point difference!!!

I say all that to say this. Outside of roughly 5 plays each game we showed we were the better team for that entire game. It’s VERY disappointing to have nothing to show for it. But I say all that to say we are CLOSE. If 3-5 plays a game are the difference between us being 2-3 and 5-0 Then that should tell you we are CLOSE.

We have an easy slate coming up:

@Vtech
Vs Duke
@ UVA
Vs FSU
@ Gtech

7-3 heading into Clemson with a lot of momentum (and hopefully having X, J George, Chaney and a healthy Zion AS WELL AS fixed issues when it comes to communication) gives me HOPE that we can make some noise on Death Valley with what Clemson has shown Thus far. Will we win 5 in a row? I don’t know. Will we beat Clemson? I don’t know. But what I do know is we are CLOSE…

Personally I don’t believe 9-3 is out of the realm of possibility. 9-3, 7-1 in conference play should be good enough for a ACC championship birth. If we walk into that game on a 7 game win streak idc if it’s Nc state, Syracuse, Wake or Clemson again I will feel good.

I hate to be a “sunshine pumper” but this is genuinely how I feel about it. We are 3-5 plays a game away from being 5-0. If we can take those “3-5” plays a game AWAY I feel confident in the rest of the season.
Mario said yesterday Clark and Rique look good for this weekend, 70 needs more time for a final determination and Zion is a game time decision

Both have been beat 1-on-1 a few too many times to continue justifying throwing them out there. One man's opinion.

I’ll agree on tackling and blown coverages. I’m assuming you’re referring to the A&M running back. He had one long run on yes another miss tackle, but we bottled him up most the night also. FSU is not really a MSTU or UNC type passing offense. In addition, there won’t be any issues with our guys getting up for that game.
Last year i watched Tecoury Couch on a 4th and 15+ game on the line stand in the same spot without moving 2 yards allowing an uncontested pitch an catch when he had nooo threat. Doesnt matter what type of passing offense they have...did you see that simple route concept that they blew the first td blown coverage on in a cover 2.

This team is all over the place so im not getting too hot or cold on them on defense. Just how we will be getting up for the game so will fsu...and i hate them.
VT and FSU are the 2 teams i believe to be our biggest rivals...we can lose all of our other games and we win those 2 im solid with this szn lol

I agree on VT becoming a rival based off our games between 95 to early/mid 2000's. UNC is approaching that with the way they've had our number and tied of seeing those powder blue aholes throw the U down.

Will we beat Clemson?

(and yes I'm on the Mario train, but I'm realistic. **** stinks like a NYC subway station and Mario made a couple bad hires.)

These players and coaches can play down to anyone.

We’ve all be through it before, but for the love of god, only look at the present game and nothing more.

49/51 chances we win those games.

You are what you record says you are.
We are not a good team and we are very unlikely to 7-3 when we see Clemson.
This team is able to to lose to anyone on our schedule.

I mostly agree with your premise.

This team isn't good enough to overcome the issues we've had (red zone woes, blown coverages, drops, fumbles, muffs, missed field goals and turning the ball over on downs, etc.). Not to mention sleep walking against MTSU and having TVD absent for a solid 3 game stretch. But looking at each game we definitely could've won if we made a few more plays and made a few less errors.

Does that mean we finally turn the corner and win 5 or 6 more games? Maybe. We have a very winnable game coming up (which we absolutely can't afford to lose). Let's see how we do and take it from there.

If we can get a nice win streak going and get some confidence going into FSU and later Clemson, maybe we can finish strong.

Agree,we can't lose tmrw or we will be looking at a 3-9,4-8 type season and we haven't seen those types of records here in over 4 decades.

Clemson is going to gouge out our eyeballs and skull**** us, but finishing 8-4 would mean we turned this disaster aroiund somehow.

Hey that sort of be like some random team rallying to win its last 6 of 7 games to finish above .500. That kind of turnaround always bodes well for the HC. Oh wait...

Like your optimism but the problem is that if the problem continues to rear it’s head, it is endemic and should be considered to be expected. I agree that we should be better than this and I believe that when these kids want to buck the trend and become winners, this will become a thing of the past. Tim Tebow was not a good QB (we can all agree on this point) but he had a will you win and he helped propel that team to some championship seasons. But in the meanwhile, the kids are doing it to themselves. That is the only way that this is explained in which these anomalies continue to occur week in and week out. When they have finally us enough, they will figure out how to win and then will use pure effort and might to not lose every weekend. Thought we were seeing it last weekend but couldn’t make the comeback.
