Very few Coaches are still built this way

My guy, he will never leave the Nova job. He's been offered the Kentucky job before and even the 76ers job twice and turned them down. He loves Villanova

Ya gotta love him!!

It is so rare today to see someone who really values the things that we all claim to hold most dear .....more so than $$$$

And actually follows through on holding those things dear.....instead of just giving it lip service.

Why would he leave Nova? He's a god there, and can ride his two championships to retirement. Unless the bottom completely falls out for him at Nova, he will have lifetime job security. Why risk that by going to a UCLA program with significantly more pressure, for a piddling raise(Once you account for taxes and living expenses, a lot of that money is already gone)? Why put yourself through that? People are applauding Wright for doing something a lot of coaches in his spot would do. He doesn't have any ties to UCLA, the job itself is highly overrated, and the odds of him failing there are pretty good(He has few West Coast recruiting connections, and you have to recruit the WC in order to win at UCLA). He made the rational decision. Stop looking at these college coaches as moral authorities for merely making sound decisions.

Higher aspirations?

More money?

New challenges?

Wright is going to do what he wants.

Higher aspirations?

He's already won TWO titles at Villanova, so he knows it can be done. What's so special about winning a title at UCLA, compared to Nova? There isn't, the only thing is that at Nova, he's established, where at UCLA, they are still blowing Wooden and every coach that comes along has to compete with that. It's a fool's errand to live in that shadow.

More Money?

Is it more money? HIs salary is doubled, but most of that money is eaten up by cost of living and taxes. Living in California isn't all that it is cracked up to be, and Wright may not be about that lifestyle. He's an east coast guy, maybe a middling pay raise isn't enough. Odds are Villanova made up a significant part of the difference.

New Challenges?

If you have proven that you can win and win big somewhere, what's the challenge of moving on in the same division? Trying to rebuild UCLA may not be all that exciting to Wright. Wright isn't limited in regards to winning titles at Nova, he's won two of them. It's not like Wright is still at Hofstra, which is limited by resources in regards to winning titles. This isn't the 80s, where you couldn't really win a title outside of 8-12 schools.

People are looking at this like it's 1976 and UCLA still matters. They don't. They are a **** poor managed athletic department that is still trying to sell people on "Hey, Wooden coached here" . No one gives a ****. If you were born after 1990, you know UCLA as a program that has been an also ran, with some occasional big runs. They aren't UNC, Duke or Kentucky. I don't blame Wright for staying at Nova, he is already a legend there, and has passed Rollie. Some guys want to carve their own path, instead of merely being a hired gun.

Higher aspirations?

This is beyond a waste of time. Here was your exact post...

Why would he leave Nova?

I provided you with three possible reasons. I don't speak for JW, I am just providing you with three possible reasons.

1. Higher Aspirations:

- As for another college program: How many coaches have won championships at 2 different programs?
- The NBA: Maybe he wants to go to the next level.

2. More Money: What needs to be said about this...If he wants more money and Nova doesn't want to pay, perhaps he would take another gig. Money motivates people.

3. New Challenges:

- Perhaps he wants to achieve greatness at another program.
- Perhaps he want to take a chance in the NBA.

Buyer beware believing anything about the UCLA search. There are people still playing both sides of the media over that ****show as the school is portrayed in the same stories as willing to spend any amount of money.....but then squabbling over buyouts with multiple candidates.

We had a very legitimate chance at landing Jay Wright before he went to Villanova. Crazy close

Per Adrian Wojnarowski this morning, John Beilein is leaving Michigan for the Cleveland Cavs job. A matter of money.
