Per Footballoutsiders Notre Dame's FEI ratings on defense under VanGorder have been 79 (2014) 58(2015) and 74 (2016). FEI is a rating of defense and offense based on play on play, adjusted for strength of scuedule.

VanGorder has been a DC for 3 years in the NFL. Guy has produced a ton of NFL talent especially LBers. I'm pretty sure there is more to the story at ND. Kelly is now on the hotseat and anyone under him can kick rocks if it means his seat will cool off.

I like Diaz as he is from Miami and runs a 4-3 attack D. My number 1 would have been the WISC now LSU DC, Aranda. That guy made a bad choice based on only $$$. If he picked Miami, he likely lands a HBC job within 3 years at a good program. Now, Diaz will be the guy likely to get a good job in 3-4 years. Just hope Miami can keep him for 1-2 championships.
