So MOST of the higher ups have lost faith in this coaching staff. Buyout doesn't seem to be the issue but it's a piece of the puzzle. Here's where it gets complicated. There will be a new president in place in the spring and MOST BOT members don't feel like it's fair to hire someone and stick the new president with that person without any input. Here's where it gets even MORE complicated. One of the largest donors at UM wants to hire a president that is HIGHLY focused on academics again with even MORE credentials than Donna. Many BOT members are strongly against that because they want athletics to get back to where it should be. Sounds like a power struggle at the top of some people wanting one thing and others wanting another.

Very interesting conversation I had today and I didn't realize it was this bad. This bad meaning, if you are a guy who wants athletics to succeed, this news is kind of scary. I obviously can't say names but let's just say the donor who wants an academic president is one of the biggest we have. On the bright side, there are still MANY powerful people at UM who want athletics to get back to elite. Should be interesting to see where all this falls. Let's hope they find some kind of compromise. I will have more info sometime this week. I can't say much more but this week will probably clarify some things. Is this similar to what you are hearing Gary?

2 things..

1.At least the buyout isnt the issue we thought it would be

2. Its a power struggle; but the majority will rule. No matter that donors perceived clout.

*the new prez will have a lot of power w/ coaching search.

So ums biggest donor is the head of coloring books operation, prayers sent to our football teams future.

I don't get why one needs to suffer at the expense of the other. Can't we strive for greatness in sports and academics at the same time? Aren't they mutually beneficial to each-other? Wtf?!?

For a bunch of smart guys, this is actually kind of stupid. If you are the brand new President at a major university, should your focus be on getting settled into your job at the university or looking for a new head coach. If anything hiring a new coach does the new guy a favor and buys him some time to get settled in and evaluating the new coach before needing to make any tough choices on that front.

Academics should be the new presidents focus and this is one less thing that could be on his plate when he arrives.

Miami football as we know it is gone! Just sad man. They are coming up with complete bs just trying to buy their *** some time. You mean to tell me a president is going to come in here and make a better decision than the AD what he is hired for???

For how much they preach academics they are **** poor when it comes to common sense. Tell me how in the **** does athletics are going to affect academics as a whole. This school itself will sell academics. Not buying this bs wanting the president to have some input what the **** for.
