As I said on some other thread, USC needed a future NFL HOF coach to win after almost 30 years of nothingness. People overrate that job tremendously. Remember, Carroll was their 4th or 5th choice for HC, they essentially lucked into what built them up.

Yikes. Not thrilled with this at all, as an alum. Too easy to be suckered by an interim coach and a few feel-good wins. Naturally the players will support him. Atop you are supposed to be more astute and ruthless than that.

I'm not convinced Clay Helton knows or cares that you have to hold opponents to 6 yards or less per pass attempt to content nationally year in and year out. There are roughly 20 teams in that category this season, a big uptick from the normal dozen or so. As more teams prioritize intense attacking defense, the cupcake programs are naturally left behind.
