USC goes 7-5

True. Good coach.

He also won those games in the Big 12 and the PAC 12, both perceived as weak conferences. PAC 12 did improve this season.

Winning record against ranked teams, mostly in conference, but 1-4 in bowl games and 0-3 in CFP games.
I mean, the only coaches with better win percentages that coach in the SEC or Big10 are Ryan Day and Kirby Smart.

We can find chinks in Riley's armor but if you compare his body of work to the rest of college football, there's a tiny handful of guys who you can honestly say are more successful. The guys doing victory laps based on them going 7-5 are just Mario apologists trying desperately to find another coach who flopped as hard as Mario has.

Some, maybe. I think Riley 7-5 season is CFB’s biggest flop this year but I don’t think that makes me a Mario apologist. Cristobal made numerous mistakes this year but anyone expecting a 11/10 win ACC championship type season was a delusional fan.

And yes, Lincoln Riley is a better coach than Mario Cristobal. He plays modern CFB while Mario is stuck in the past.

I don’t expect him to annually win 10/11 games going forward. I think his teams have issues Caleb Williams (and his previous QBs) covered up. USC‘s defensive issues won’t be fixed just by finding the right coordinator. Their offensive line is not that good either. We’ll see if Riley can fix those problems because he never fixed them at OU. He generally outscored everybody in conferences known for poor defensive play. This season he played his toughest conference schedule ever.

Riley needs a come-to-Jesus moment on defense like Mario needs one on offense.

What is wrong with y’all? The guy is 73-18 as a HC. Turned a walk-on into a Heisman winner and Jalen Hurts into an elite QB.

You can count the active coaches who have a national title, on one hand. That’s a delusional measuring stick.

His team had national champ dreams. They lost a game and folded bc the season was ruined. He’s not the first guy to have that happen to his team, and he won’t be the last. It doesn’t mean his career is over lmao
