Updated defensive rankings

We are looking really good for sure and having those stats is nice, but we also haven't played the most explosive offenses in the country.

This narrative is getting old. Dude we aren't going to play Bama, OSU, or OU unless we make the CF Playoffs.. Probably not PSU either. Those are the 4 explosive offenses out there. Everyone else is pretty much the same. So are we going to say this the entire season? Our D is playing great right now. Just enjoy it. We will play Clemson in due time.

Miami's updated defensive national rankings as of today

Third-down defense: First
Tackles for loss: First
Total defense: Second
Fewest passing yards allowed: Third
Pass efficiency defense: Sixth
Turnovers forced: Sixth
Rush defense:
Seventh Sacks: Eighth

While impressive at first glance, if we finish close to this at the end of the year, I will be really impressed with the job Manny Diaz is doing.

Can you imagine those defensive rankings with any of our last 6 punters on this roster?

So are you putting Norton over McIntosh beside Willis? I know it’s all just a dream now but **** we have to get these ballers to start listening to sound advice from coaches on their draft prospects and stay. Have to fight like **** just to get them to stay home in the first place and put on for The U and the city instead of chasing the money then convince them all over again after 3 years. Richt needs to point to a couple of guys as examples with one in particular but not saying any names because I don’t want to jinx either one of them.

I would've had Willis and Norton inside on what is an obvious passing down with McIntosh and Jackson on the edges. Passing downs, McIntosh would move inside with Norton or Willis being spelled. McIntosh could rush the passer or drop in coverage using that length of his.

Nah Willis coming out is a better prospect he was a 5 star for a reason, I would like us to go out and get those types of kids at DT instead of settling. Some flame out but u have to get those Willis types..........Silvera is a dog though lets not mistake that.....kid is a gamer man and has all the tools to be great.

He wasn't that much of a better prospect. They were both ranked the #2 DT coming out of highschool. Silvera was like 20 overall spots below Willis in the overall list. Really not that big of a difference.

R u serious"?

2 to 20 is a huge difference in player rankings............if its number 2 dt to number 20 dt thats a big difference................unless u mean number 2 player and number 20 player then thats different.

Dude look at the rankings. They were both the #2 DT. Willis was ranked 20 something overall and Nesta was ranked 40 something overall. That’s what I meant in twenty difference.

Lets not forget that the offense is a part of the better defensive numbers. We're actually converting 3rd downs and keeping the defense off the field. Last year we the offense left the defense out to dry for large portions of the game

here's my thing about this defense - can they go out on the road(like they will this week) and bring a certain stability to the team and game while Perry and the offense get going? That's what great defenses do - they travel well and let the other side of the ball settle in.

That's really their job this week, in my view.

If the offense can ever be consistent enough to let them play from ahead and put teams in a must-pass situation, this unit will be prolific

This is the type of defense that lands you a head coaching job.

We’re on pace to have the most TFL of any team in the last 10 years, by a fairly large margin.

Someone mentioned special teams. That point can’t be downplayed....poor punting and field position is probably the difference between #1 and where we are. No matter what the stats say though - this Defense is fun as **** to watch. Every defense is going to give up plays...but not every defense can control the tone and tempo like this one.

Our D line is dominating, why are we still talking about McIintosh and Norton?!?

Because if you had read my reply a little further down to another post, you would have seen that I was referring to depth at the DT position at a high caliber. I hold my breath every time I see Willis down on the field.

We can only play the teams put in front of us. Also, some of these lower tier teams can put up some yards period . We held Toledo to like 250 yards and their offense is prolific. Not many defenses dominant anymore . Dominant Bama gave up 31 to Arkansas . Be thankful we’re not Virginia Tech giving up 600 yards to ODU

True. What I said wasn’t meant as a criticism. I’m just hoping those numbers hold up through the tougher part of our schedule. I’m still shook from what happened at the end of the season last year.
