Update - Clarification from David Lake, 247 TODAY

I don’t understand why anybody affiliated with the University of Miami to not be successful. This is the part that gets me
This is no different than the business world or the political world or anywhere money and power are involved. It's all about hooking up your friends and people in your circle. If you have the majority on your "side" than most decisions will go your way. To **** with whether or not they're actually the right decisions, or whether or not anyone will benefit from them. It's about boosting your own personal ego and profile. Being right isn't important to them.

Wasn't Frenk considered a lame duck not that long ago? Maybe he realizes making a good move on this and aligning with the right faction will give him new life?

Now you're thinkin' chess. If the 18 year BOT guys (Epstein) won't give him that contract, maybe the 2 year BOT guys (Mas) will...

Is it common place for an AD to be hired and immediately fire a coach? I feel like most of the time the previous AD/head coach get fired together.

Pretty plugged in. He's a UM grad and has been covering the program about 15 years now. Worked with him a bit when I was in school at UM and he's been one of the better recruiting insiders in the market. Has been doing the lord's work this year taking Manny to task.
He literally went scorched Earth on Blake and its was fantastic

Like David and the info he usually brings, but here’s my problem with his article. He says there is no power struggle but then goes on to say that people are intentionally leaking info to create havoc to scare off quality ADs…. Seems like a power struggle to me.

The very definition.

But everyone is disingenuous.

This narrative of a ‘power struggle’ happening at Miami with the AD and potential head coaching search is disingenuous. Where is the power struggle? President Julio Frenk is in power and he and his advisors are making changes.

WRONG.

Miami does not have a AD…no power there. The board of trustees is toothless (the decision to part ways from Blake James was made without their input for a reason)…no power there either.

WRONG.

President Julio Frenk and his advisors are attacking the status quo and these aggressive changes are making people uncomfortable. Are you all satisfied with the status quo? These type of massive changes need to happen if Miami is going to move forward and have success. The problem is systemic.

WHY WOULD IT BE A PROBLEM FOR PEOPLE TO BE UNCOMFORTABLE IF THEY ARE TOOTHLESS? WHY WOULD THE "SYSTEMIC" PROBLEM BE AN ISSUE IF THE "SYSTEM" IS TOOTHLESS?

Again, people in the Hecht building and on the BoT leaking out that Manny Diaz is on the cusp of returning is disingenuous. Interim AD Jenn Strawley is not a candidate for the AD position. That would be a status quo move and the people making this decision don’t want the status quo.

SURE, EVERYONE IS DISINGENUOUS EXCEPT FOR DAVID LAKE AND JULIO FRENK. YET THIS INDICATES THAT THE BOT IS NOT AS TOOTHLESS AS CLAIMED TWO PARAGRAPHS EARLIER. THEIR ACTIONS ARE HAVING IMPACT.

These narratives are damaging because they characterize Miami as a circus (which it isn’t), but this circus narrative is something that the status quo people want to put out there because it could potentially scare quality AD candidates and scare a potential quality coach. These narratives are a shining example of why a total culture reset is needed.

AND YET ONE PARAGRAPH EARLIER, YOU WERE CLAIMING THAT HECHT PEOPLE AND BOT PEOPLE WERE LEAKING FALSE (AND, OF COURSE, DISINGENUOUS) STORIES, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE TOOTHLESS. SOUNDS LIKE A CIRCUS TO ME.

If anything this seems like the BOT leaking out that they have no power and Frenk is going at this on his own so when they make a ****** hire they get no blowback.

HERE IS THE NEWS: Frenk and his advisors will hire the AD, which is currently going through a search firm process. The AD and Frenk will then make a decision on Manny Diaz.

Don’t fall for it. It needs to stop.

So we might end up really liking Frenk? Interesting

Not sure how Lake deduced there was no power struggle .. if there wasn't one the AD hire would have been made by Monday of this week .. he would be in place and reviewing the HC situation .. Diaz and alternatives .. and the HC situation would be clarified to all by next Monday. The FACT that nothing has happened highlights the power struggle within the BOT that is currently hamstringing any action.
