There's no getting "back" to something that no longer exists. Miami changed the game of college football in the 1980's; implementing next-level speed and an attitude birthed out of the inner city kids sticking around South Florida to put UM on the map. The Canes destroyed the wishbone and option, crushing the Big 8, while leaving all the slow, pasty Big Ten teams in the dust with all that speed.
Everyone has speed now, everyone has talent and everyone is poaching South Florida talent—as it's no longer roping off the State of Miami and taking talent from The Big Three. You now have FIU (Davis), FAU (Kiffin), USF (Strong), UCF (Heupel), UF (Mullen) and FSU (Taggart)—as well as big time, national program cherry-picking the area.
If you're judging the University of Miami's football program on getting back to a once-in-a-lifetime era—you're going to be massively disappointed where this all goes. There is no "back" to get to. Miami simply needs to dominate the Coastal, compete for ACC Championships and try to work its way into the Playoffs. Dominating at that yesteryear level; IMPOSSIBLE to do in this day an age for anyone outside of Tuscaloosa (or maybe Clemson).
