Well I would argue that Beck placing on the football into the hands of his receivers last season did elevate the room. But he can’t make them catch the ball. Beck did all he could for his WR’s and the UGA offense last year. But it was a mess in spite of him, not because of him.

Assuming our WR’s catch footballs that hit their hands, we will be OK. But even that remains to be seen considering that it’s an entirely new group of receivers.
 
Good stuff OP...nice breakdown and it makes sense for the most part. Let's hope it shakes out that way

Fair points, but it's because it's the preseason and we're undefeated rn

This year we will have Daniels trader Johnson/toney as a most likely top 3/4. Then the tight ends who will catch passes will be lofton and bauman with schott maybe having a role. It’s a bit more uncertain and I bet the rotations will be larger. Just a thought because Moore may be ready to contribute and ray ray apparently will contribute as well as Marion playing a gadget role

I can see going with 2 philosophies
The receivers that work best with Beck
And
Going with the hot hand.

Arroyos ability to get down field may be tough to replace
But I suspect a more rhythm and timing passing game. Less big plays more intentional and specific.

For being so highly rated, UGA OL was dog ****. It's hard to elevate anything with little time to see plays develop.

Nah he was apart of the mess and the wrs & oc were trash, both are true imo. You don’t throw 12 ints in 6 games and get excluded from the mess lol what are we doing here

Am concerned that we don't have dynamic bona fide #1 outside WR just like last year. Even with our putrid efense last year I think that cost us in both the GT & Cuse games.

How did our WR room cost us the Syracuse game? Did you even watch the game?
 
If last year didn’t prove that wide receiver is the most overrated position in college football, I don’t know what will.

We had the best offense in the nation and the best offense in school history with three undrafted receivers and a fourth guy who is at best, WR 3 on his new team. Our receiver room was generally small and slow. Tight End was a big anthle but he was out fifth leading receiver.

Scheme and quarterbacks make receivers in college football. Not the other way around.

Of course generational talents like Jeremiah Smith or Randy Moss will always make your offense better but it’s not the NFL where you need to consistently beat great corners one on one. You can get great production from a guy who just knows how to run routes and doesn’t drop the ball even if he’s small and slow.

I said the same thing last year when people thought our WR group was going to be a weak spot, just like they’re saying this year. As long as our quarterback is healthy and our line holds up, we will put up a ton of yards and points through the air.

Remember they gave up 380 yards passing?

Oh wait. Only on CIS do we blame offensive players for a game we lost 42-38.
 
Jojo is way more talented than George. I don't care that he hasn't played a lot of minutes. He will be an upgrade. Toney will replace Restrepo. No worries there at all. Josh Moore is the most talented and i would take him over Horton every day of the week. He will start this season at some point. We will be fine at WR. We didn't lose first rounders, we lost average receivers. We upgraded in talent.

Perhaps I wasn't clear and should have worded it a bit differently: Not having a #1 WR was a cost to us in the Cuse game, the defense's putrid performance was obviously orders of magnitude costlier. I didn't mean to imply that the reason we lost the Cuse game was because of our lack of a #1 WR. Just that we'd have had a better chance to have won if we had one. Feel the same way about the GTech game with all the trips we had in plus territory without cashing in a TD.

Against Cuse, we ran 6 offensive plays from the ~20 yard line or closer on our last drive, and if memory serves we didn't attempt to throw the ball into the end zone once when we needed a TD. We didn't have a WR that we trusted to throw a jump ball to in the corner of the end zone like Cuse did with Meeks against us.

Hopefully Moore develops rapidly and can be that type of WR for us this year. I expect our defense to be much better, and our running game to be even better than it was last year. If we lack a #1 WR type again this year it should matter a little less.

I generally agree with folks who say it's not necessary in college to have a bonafide #1 WR to have a great offense. However, I do think in the red zone having a WR who can Moss guys/the defense has to double is a huge advantage that we have lacked and may well lack again this year.
 
Im not concerned. Each year under Dawson and Beard at least one or two guys have broken out. X and George in 2023. Horton and Arroyo last year. I expected the same to happen this year with Jojo being the most likely candidate.

Kind of.

We ran it on 1st down from just outside the 20, and Martinez had a decent run.

2nd down was a horrific drop from Horton. Ball hit him directly in the chest on a dead run, at worst it’s first and goal from inside the 10, always a chance he runs though a tackle and scores. Really gross drop, so yes, that cost us for sure.

3rd down we get a PI on a pass that X scores on if they dont interfere.

Then cam makes a terrible decision on 1st down on a slant to George, the ball goes into the air and should’ve been picked but hits the turf, Jacolby does what Jacolby does and takes a totally selfish penalty, and that’s basically all she wrote. Don’t have much in the playbook for 2nd and goal from the 23.
