UNLV Matt Sluka-Sitting Out Due To NIL Dispute

Seems like unlv tried to get over on him but the agent also made it very easy by not getting the agreement on paper and finalized lol.

This new era is rocky not because it’s wrong to pay players but because financial literacy is low in these situations and majority of these agents seem clueless and just trying to get their cut

And the schools have probably always lied to kids to get them on campus but now there is consequences. And all of this has no one overseeing it so i think there is gonna be more stories like this

As this story continues to unravel, some thoughts came to mind....

What does a school do if a student athlete decides to black mail the school if they don't pony up more doe mid season?

Is there, or should there be a "no redshirt" clause if that is the case, to limit that as an option?

On the flip side, what protections are in place for a student athlete other than sit and redshirt?

since the school cannot pay kids nothing. if he didnt have a redshirt available, he'd lose a year. thats the penalty. he has a redshirt available therefore hes good

Reminds me of this seen from Jerry Maguire.
Jerry Maguire and Matt Cushman My word is stronger than oak on ...

Right now I would caution all to remain calm, & hold off judgment. There’s two different narratives going on from two different camps.

However, do u see how NIL is being tied to what “the school promised” v. the collective? This situation is going to be monitored & scrutinized while the NCAA has it day in court. We can call this Exhibit A.

Regardless, welcome to the new world of CFB, & new precedents set where guys can hold out in mid season if they

a) are not compensated accordingly
b) feel they deserve more than what was agreed upon
c) feel they want to transfer, & to preserve their eligibility

Side note, verbal agreements are implied, not binding. If the family &/or representatives didn’t put pen to paper, & based this situation off a pinky swear, then that’s their fault. U always have a binding contract ahead of any agreement, & read the **** outta it, including every disclaimer, fine print, contingencies, even if it doesn’t seem important.

Completion percentage in the 40s. Both parties might have some buyers remorse on that one.

Wasn't he passing the ball alot at Holy Cross? From what little I've seen of UNLV, they are running more triple-option with some passing, kind of like what Navy is doing this season. Perhaps, as someone mentioned on this thread, he agreed to incentives on his NIL which won't be realized with this offense. What a mess. Football is the ultimate team sport. To have your QB bolt in the middle of season is crazy.
