Random question but I was talking about this one earlier with a buddy of mine.

Who’s some dudes that was either a phenomenal high school player but got overlooked by P5/4 schools or even ones who did make it to one and was great?

There’s been quite a few from Miami Northwestern now that you mentioned Kancey.

S Levy Brown (Northwestern 1999)
CB Yulkeith Brown (Northwestern 2000)
WR Tim Brown (Northwestern 2006)

Not sure if these guys are related at all but all played at MNW back at their peak. All were overlooked for the most part due to size. Yulkeith was recruited by FSU I know but he ended up signing with West Virginia but never enrolled and later resurfaced at FAU. Levy tore it up at FAMU and the AFL. Tim Brown was a stud at Rutgers.

LaVonte David was considered skinny and wasn’t developed yet and ended up being the best of the bunch from that huge 08 class they had.

Lavante David was the only Northwestern Bull who didn’t sign with Miami that year but might’ve also been grades

I'm curious to see if the results are different based on position.

Do undersized guys have a higher/lower chance of excelling at certain positions compared to others?

I feel like you have a better chance as a 5'11" Linebacker or 6'1" Defensive Tackle than you do as a 5'9" Corner.

I don’t think it was a grade issue with him. He wasn’t highly recruited at all. The rest of the team begged Shannon to offer him and Quavon Taylor. But we signed a ton of LBs that year already…

I know Tywan Cox is listed at 5’11 but what’s the deal with him not being more heavily recruited? He’s got insane track speed and letting a kid that fast leave South Florida to go to Illinois might come back to bite us like many others listed above.

I think a lot of it has to do with what the league prefers in the modern game. Bigger, physical corners are all the rage. Sawed off pass rushers will always get play because the league want ANYONE who can pass rush. Even if they’re a liability against the run.

whats crazy is i came on here when Ponds was a ninth grader and i coached him and told folks what he would be down the road. Kid went toe to toe with our 6'5 wr every day in practice got moss some but held his own enough for me to notice.

Our wr was just the #1 overall draft pick in the CFL..and will be in KC Chiefs camp this off szn.

Lavonte went juco it was grades. He was supposed to go to MTSU...and youre right Sean Spence tried to get him to offered as well.

I think him splitting up was good as he got to be the man when he hit college and look he is still playing at a solid level in the nfl.

i dont think Tywan is a true 5'11. Illinois is a solid spot for him they have hit on alot of florida recruits. Tywan started but didnt have crazy stats his jr year.

Hes a guy if im in ums recruiting department in control of transfer portal that i would watch for development and see if can get him in portal down the road.

I see his recruitment similar to his dad who went to Pitt and became a draftee. They wont have to teach him speed if he can develop in coverage he will be the goods in the slow big 10.
