As one of the best camps on the circuit in terms of elite talent, the Under Armour All-America Miami camp has been bringing together the best of the best in South Florida to compete on the gridiron for years now.

And the 2018 version of the camp did not disappoint: over 200 of the area’s best prospects again came out to show their stuff versus the cream of the crop this past Sunday and earn an invite to either the UA Future 50 event or the UA All-America Game in January 2019.

With the 2018 class wrapped up and in the books, of course the focus of the camp was the rising seniors of 2019, but plenty of others in the 2020 class made a name for themselves as well.

As always, take this with a grain of salt: in a camp setting, kids are spread out all over the field into different groups and it’s impossible to see every play. Still, for my money, here are my top performers from the Under Armour All-America Miami camp.

Top Performers

Class of 2019

Cesare Mellusi, RB, Naples, FL (Naples)

On tape, what’s most impressive about Mellusi is his vision as a one-cut and go type of back. On Sunday though, Mellusi showed off his hands at the event, catching most everything thrown his way and revealing some versatility. He recently told CIS that Miami was in his top 2 along with Notre Dame.

John Dunmore, WR, Hollywood, FL (Chaminade-Madonna)

Dunmore has now pulled off the hat trick, getting on this list for the third time of the off-season including Rivals 3 Stripe Miami and the Opening Miami Regional. Dunmore didn’t really have much to prove, yet he again made some jaw dropping plays and earned an invite to the UA All-America Game. Dunmore is still waiting on a Miami offer, but FSU and UF are making big pushes here.

Khris Bogle, DE, Fort Lauderdale, FL (Cardinal Gibbons)

Bogle gave another monster performance despite a minor wrist injury. He made his living in the backfield and was nearly impossible to block all day. He shared the UA Big Man Challenge winner honors with Elijah Roberts. Bogle, who threw up “the U” at the Opening last month, is coming off a recent Miami visit and soon after hinted he could be ready to commit.

Denzel Daxon, DT, Miami, FL (Norland)

The dude just has raw strength that is not possessed by many people. The Miami commit was blowing linemen off the ball with regularity and he plays with a mean-streak and aggression that you really can’t coach. Daxon also showed off a nasty inside swim move that was hard to handle for the offensive linemen. He’s a solid commit to Miami.

Renato Brown, DT, West Palm Beach, FL (Palm Beach Central)

Brown made his first appearance on the off-season camp circuit and did not disappoint. He immediately came out of the gate on fire, dominating his first rep in 1-on-1’s and easily breaking through the line without much pushback from his opponent. He’s a load to stop in the middle of a defensive line. Just like Daxon, Brown is a solid Miami commit.

Jaden Davis, CB, Fort Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas)

Davis may have made the play of the day in 7-on-7 work, completely skying and getting vertical to intercept a ball that looked to be way over his head. That was only part of his impressive day and Davis had already scored a UA Game invite previously. Miami is in his top 10 and he told CIS the Canes are one of five schools recruiting him the hardest.

Kaiir Elam, CB, West Palm Beach, FL (The Benjamin School)

Elam looks like a star in the making and he proved himself yet again on Sunday after winning DB MVP at the Rivals Miami camp last month. Like Dunmore, he’s also 3/3 for making this off-season camps list. Elam got the invite to the UA Game and is very physically impressive up close. He has next-level instincts, and displays great hip-flip when running with receivers. Florida is the early leader here for Elam, but UM won’t give up easily.

Te'Cory Couch, CB, Hollywood, FL (Chaminade-Madonna)

Flying around all over the field was Couch, who was as pesky as they come on Sunday. It was hard for receivers to separate from him all day and the performance paid off in Couch receiving an invite to the UA Game.

Jordan Battle, S, Fort Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas)

Battle had a big performance on Sunday and earned an invite to the UA All-America Game. He was consistently right in his man’s hip pocket and it seemed like he was gliding through the air effortlessly on his many pass break-ups.

Class of 2020

Xavier Restrepo, WR, Fort Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas)

Restrepo was my top offensive player on the day, as it seemed every time he matched up with someone, he was separating with ease and making a play. On one rep, Retrepo juked his man, left him on the ground, and made a sick sideline grab on the underthrown ball, drawing wows from the crowd. He then earned some style points and finished with a backflip in the endzone. Restrepo doubles as a safety for St. Thomas, sports a Miami offer, and grew up a Canes fan.

Marcus Rosemy, WR, Fort Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas)

Also his third appearance on this list, Rosemy uses his size well and straight up bodies and bullies some DB’s. Rosemy made some great catches in traffic on Sunday and is a technician as a route runner. Miami hasn’t offered, but Rosemy attended Paradise Camp back in July, so there’s at least some cursory interest between the two parties. Georgia, Ohio State, and UF are Rosemy’s biggest offers. Rosemy was named to 247Sports’ Top247 last week.

Bryan Robinson, WR, West Palm Beach, FL (Palm Beach Central)

Robinson was also recently named to 247Sports’ Top247 and he proved that was no fluke on Sunday. Robinson held his own against a deep DB field and made a couple of splash plays, gaining a UA Future 50 invite as well. He has offers from Miami, UF, Georgia, and Penn State, to name a few.

Dominic Mammarelli, TE, Naples, FL (Naples)

Mammarelli looked every bit of his 6’4” listed height, but moves with the fluidity of a wide receiver. He won his fair share of reps at the camp and had a wicked stutter step to the outside, burst to the inside move that froze a DB and left Mammarelli wide open in the endzone. Miami recently offered the talented tight end from Naples, who was also named to the Top 247 last week.

Elijah Roberts, DE, Miami, FL (Columbus)

There was a buzz going around about Roberts throughout the sidelines because not many knew who he was, yet he was winning almost every rep cleanly in linemen 1-on-1 drills. He beat out an extremely deep D-Line field to win the UA Big Man Challenge along with Bogle and it was well deserved; I’d say he was the top defensive performer. Roberts’ rip and swim move is very polished for just a sophomore and he looked extremely strong in his bull-rush. He currently has no offers, but if this camp is any indication, that number is going to change soon. Miami has been in contact.

Samuel Anaele, DE, Miami, FL (Norland)

Anaele looked to be right at home going up against a majority of kids that were a year older than him. He’s just so strong at the point of attack, but can also blow by you with his speed. The scary part is he’s only getting better. Anaele secure a UA Future 50 invite as well. Anaele is a solid Miami commit.

Notes

**Couch told me Miami and Michigan
were his current top 2, despite him being a Tennessee commit.

**Talking with him after camp, Battle told me Miami was in his top 5 along with Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Florida.

**Recent 2020 offeree DB Henry Gray from Miami Central told me he grew up a Canes fan and lights up when talking about Miami.

**DE’s Khris Bogle and Elijah Roberts were honored as the best linemen in the camp, winning the Under Armour Big Man Challenge.

**Here’s who scored invites to the UA All-American Game in January 2019: DB Jordan Battle, DB Kaiir Elam, DB Te’Cory Couch, and WR John Dunmore.

**UA Future 50 invites went to WR Bryan Robinson and UM Commit DE Samuel Anaele.

**Miami LB/DB commit Diamante Howard worked with the DBs again yesterday, consistent with his other recent camp appearances. To my eye, he ran better than expected as he continues his transition to safety.

**QB's looked a little better yesterday at the UA camp, a nice change up from other recent South Florida camps. Definitely more passes on-target for open receivers to make plays on, less underthrown ducks.

**There were more than a few players scheduled to participate that did not show up. WR Frank Ladson and DB Tyrique Stevenson were on the roster, but decided to commit to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl instead and skip the UA event. Other big no-shows were Miami commit WR Brieon Fuller, ATH Mark-Antony Richards, DB Josh Sanguinetti, and 2021 OT Marcus Tate.

**Miami commit LB Samuel Brooks was on the roster as well and was in attendance, but continued to sit-out in his recovery from his torn ACL and meniscus. FSU commit DE Mike Morris showed up in street clothes but was relegated to the sidelines with injury, consistent with his other off-season camp appearances.

Any chatter about anyone possibly committing soon or about which participants are heavy Miami leans?

That 2020 WR class is like this years RB class, just an insane amount of talent and guys will be left out. I’d be good with recruiting just Payton, Dunmore, and Ladson for now. Payton is already on board and try to go 1 for 2 with the other guys. Honestly, I’m good with a WR class of 1-2 elite guys. Then, reload with the 2020 class.

Agreed. It seems like Dunmore : Samuels Jr = Ladson : Campbell. Holding out on exciting local kids that may want in because we're "confident" we can land the totally noncommittal big fish.
totally agree with this analogy. And I think Stevenson is another one .... don't have a good feeling there right now...

Lots of talent out there. We need to capitalize on this group of D-linemen to be able to contend with the Alabama's and Clemson's of CFB.
