UNC transfer Devontez Walker denied too - NCAA changed their mind, he's eligible now

Not that the situations are identical, but a looooong time ago, we had a guy by the name of....Dan Sileo...

...who first enrolled at Maryland in 1982, though he was academically ineligible (below 2.0 HS GPA), and he took 9 credit hours in Fall 1982 and Spring 1983 in order to gain eligibility, where he played for Maryland during the 1983 season (1st year or 2nd year?)...

....then he transferred to Cincinnati in 1984, though never playing in 1984 (sit-out year, and was it his 2nd year or 3rd year?)...

...then he transferred to Miami in 1985 (sit-out year, was it his 3rd year or 4th year?) and began playing for Miami in 1986 (was it his 4th year or 5th/final year?)...

...but was then declared ineligible in 1987 because the NCAA ruled that his clock had started in 1982 (even though he never played and was ineligible)...

Good times....

NCAA update anything since then? My understanding has always been, once one enrolls that starts eligibility clock.

The reason UNC keeps pushing the issue is because they desperately need him so they don't waste the final year of Drake Maye. A top 2 selection in next years NFL draft at QB and no bigtime receivers for him to throw to. He is a game changer.

Elite quarterback, already took out an SEC team, are ranked and have a relatively easy schedule. This has to be the year for them and they know it.

I know we are all supposed to hate the NCAA but to be honest I agree with them completely on this dudes third transfer. I applaud them for calling out UNC directly for how unc has behaved publicly
Sounds like the 4th considering the info here about him enrolling at ETSU.

Stupid EDIT: Nevermind you're right, 4th school, 3rd transfer.

Seems like a silly hill to die on, given that losing to App State may signal slightly larger concerns.

UNC....looking desperate and ridiculous. Mack Brown & their AD are such whiners. Last night NCAA said they have received “threats” over this (thanks to Brown & AD Cunningham PUBLICALLY lobbying to get him eligible). Almost lost to APP STATE but keep whining UNC! :youre-nuts:

Yeah, I was gonna say that. What do these tarholes think that threatening people at the NCAA offices, gonna do? I’ll tell ya. Not a **** thing. They’ve made their decision…. and not being a homer here, on the surface, it seems like the right call.

I tell you what I would really want if I was a head ball coach preparing my team to enter the make or break stretch of the season...I would want EVERYONE talking about one dude who won't be playing in games. I would want the media asking everyone at the school about nothing else. I would want my dudes who will be playing to be focused on how awful the NCAA is for not letting the dude play. I would have all my dudes put stickers on their helmet with the number of the dude who won't play. And I would DEFINITELY make the dudes in my most make or break position group on offense all feel like they're very mediocre by acting desperate to bump at least one of them down the depth chart. I would then expect to be the front runner for national coach of the year.
