UNC extends Mack Brown

Right now, I’m not comfortable with our front 7 against Howell and their OL. I hope players legit emerge with next level steps to change that.
How much was the 2020 game just a anomaly vs that scheme and a bad day at the office..I’m leaning more towards that then anything else. On the road in 2019 we held that run game in check

Our DL will not be as good as last year. Our LB room isn’t exactly strong. Howell and their OL will be better. They will have serviceable running backs in relation to who they’ll be up against on our side.

Where I think we improve is in the back end.

So are you making fun of UNC and Mack Brown or are you surreptitiously suggesting that you want Manny to get an extension right now as well?

I’m saying with a successful season he WILL be extended because it’s standard operating procedure in college football. Just like I say every time.

Does 8-4 this season constitute “successful” for us at UM and give cause to extend?

Good points. But Howell is a likely 1st round pick. 1st round picks at QB are a rarity, even among 4 and 5 star QBs. Unless you get lucky like Oklahoma (Mayfield, Murray), the odds are that none of the QBs on that roster will compete at Howell's level. Plus, Mack is 69. Age isn't in his favor. And you could see coaches on their staff get poached, particularly if they continue some success. I don't know much about Longo, but I have to imagine he will start to get some looks for a HC job based on how well that offense has played under his watch.
Only 69?

I agree with you that Howell is most likely better than the next guy who comes through, but again, the rest of the team around the next guy will probably be better. You don't have to have a top 10 pick at QB to win in CFB.

As for Mack and coaches and poaches, that's a lot of speculation. As of this moment, he's still able to attract some very good coaches and some of the best recruits UNC has ever pulled. And he certainly doesn't seem to be slowing down much or showing anything that would concern people. Nick Saban is 69 too. And he's not only the best coach in CFB as I type this, but just pulled the best class in the modern era and won the NC. I don't think 69 today is what 69 used to be. Especially with cryogenics and viagra.
and Pornhub.

I don’t think our Dline executed all that well at times last year. Especially in the interior and just being technically sound in different areas. holding the edge and not getting cut off inside. U watch that UNC game and it wasn’t all on the LBS

Now the talents of Phillips and Roche will be missed don’t get me wrong. But I like the guys we have back by committee. Especially on the interior

The dline and LB play goes hand in hand. I think the combination of Simpson and manny and stoops gets that fixed

Well other than the fact he's on our schedule and seems to beat the **** out of us with ease, nothing at all. I don't know why that is so hard to comprehend.
This is a thread about our assessment of a three year extension given to Mack, as well as our thoughts on the UNC program.

So when you say . . .

Mack is riding the coattails of an excellent QB. Once Howell leaves, I think that program will lose a major step.
And whats manny doing this last year??

what does that have to do with the premise of this thread? Are are you just going to sh*t on Manny for the sake of sh*tting on Manny and cluttering up the thread with a meaningless post?

Fair enough.......

I don’t need 15-0 either. I’d be good with respectable losses to Bama, UNC and Clemson and a win in the bowl game. I know UNC will be a bone of contention here but if he does this and closes on a good class, I don’t know that canning him is great if we don’t have a home run option. It’s gotta look like progress though not status quo.

I agree. I’m not comfortable either. However, they are not the benchmark for this season and the deciding factor in our success. Long term, they’re a basketball school and we have five football national championships. What they do isn’t and shouldn’t be a concern here. We have bigger fish to fry.

That would be a failure. Good or not good feelings aside, Manny should NOT be given an extension of thats how the season plays out.

At this stage Bama and Clemson are basically auto-losses. Goes for almost every program who plays them. We will fight, and any given Saturday, etc, but if we can beat every team we've supposed to beat and go 11-1 outside of those two games, you'd have to consider that highly significant progress. 11 wins? We'd probably finish top 10-15 in the country. UNC would have to lose another ACC game for us to get to the ACCCG against Clemson though.

We better fry that Carolina blue football minnow then.

I know you’re expecting more I’m just being realistic about where I think we end up. Competitive losses to Clemson and Bama and a bowl win to me are a good step forward. People can debate UNC but like I said, that front 7 match up is rough.

Let’s say we beat UNC. If people want to can Manny after close losses to Bama and Clemson and a bowl win while bringing in a solid class, I’ll have to side with the keeping Manny unless there’s some home run proven entity tht shows up out of left field - like a game changer - Urban, Frieze without the issue...

We can beat UNC. We should beat UNC.
