UNC extends Mack Brown

MACK could not avoid the beatdown he got from FSU who we destroyed. LOL. Posters on this board are a buch of morons.

REALLY?? ....So tell me

Which one matters to YOU?

That UNC curb stomped us:grumpy::mad-new::hammering-head:

Or ...that FSU curb stomped UNC ?? :victorious:

Only one of them mattered to me.....and that's what happened when WE played UNC

I get no pleasure from knowing a team that beat us got beat.... So what?? :noidea:I just care about our record

so yes. I do agree that some posters on this board are a bunch(sp) of morons

What is Manny’s chances of ever beating Mack Brown at UNC? For his sake it better be 100% this season.

Good points. But Howell is a likely 1st round pick. 1st round picks at QB are a rarity, even among 4 and 5 star QBs. Unless you get lucky like Oklahoma (Mayfield, Murray), the odds are that none of the QBs on that roster will compete at Howell's level. Plus, Mack is 69. Age isn't in his favor. And you could see coaches on their staff get poached, particularly if they continue some success. I don't know much about Longo, but I have to imagine he will start to get some looks for a HC job based on how well that offense has played under his watch.

I agree with you that Howell is most likely better than the next guy who comes through, but again, the rest of the team around the next guy will probably be better. You don't have to have a top 10 pick at QB to win in CFB.

As for Mack and coaches and poaches, that's a lot of speculation. As of this moment, he's still able to attract some very good coaches and some of the best recruits UNC has ever pulled. And he certainly doesn't seem to be slowing down much or showing anything that would concern people. Nick Saban is 69 too. And he's not only the best coach in CFB as I type this, but just pulled the best class in the modern era and won the NC. I don't think 69 today is what 69 used to be. Especially with cryogenics and viagra.

Poaching may be speculation; it's also speculation as to what the successor QB may be able to accomplish in comparison to Howell.

We know that historically, coaches start to lose their edge at this age. They extended Mack through age 73 or 74. I guess if they have a "head coach in waiting" maybe it can work but I could also see things go south for them, particularly if the staff does leave for better opportunities.

I think I qualified my projections, right? No one can predict the future, agreed. But we know factually, at least one paper, that right now, in March of 2021, Mack Brown retained 14 of the 15 key coaching positions, so I don't really understand this staff departure narrative, when in reality they had one of the best retention rates in CFB this year.

And they hired well for the 15th spot, and just had one of the best recruiting classes in school history, if not their best ever.

It's hard to argue that they aren't on an upward trajectory. Again, Mack may be 69 but again, so is Saban, who just probably had the best 12 months of any program in the history of CFB. Mack has not showed any signs of slowing down, so the idea that he is going to suddenly fall off a cliff, when every single metric and the eye test says the opposite, just doesn't hold Powerade with me.

I guess it makes sense from UNC’s end.

1. UNC is not a football school; they are a basketball, women’s soccer, and lacrosse school. Football is gravy.

2. Mack is now 15-10, after taking over a UNC program that went 5-14 the last two seasons under Fedora.

3. He just pulled in two, top 15 classes, when UNC was consistently out of the top 15 prior to him being there

4. He just took UNC to a NY6 bowl in only year 2

5. He stomped an absolute mud hole in us that made headline news.

So from UNC’s standpoint, it makes sense. From Mack it makes sense as well. It’s not a high pressured job like Texas who bleed football. UNC would like to do well in Football, but their baby is CBB.
Agree with this......they have been trying to make their mark in football since the Butch hiring and it fell apart. They had to sit back and wait till they hired a guy everyone trusts around there (the way it should be).
He has everyone onboard and will be there for awhile and will win if they recruit what's considered elite for them. They can compete with us IMO because we recruit similar to them right now again IMO.

I said earlier that I have no idea if there is any speculation or rumor about Longo. I'm not keyed in at all on UNC talk. We've heard Lashlee's name mentioned here and there by national pundits; I'd be surprised if Longo isn't on someone's radar. Attrition naturally comes with success.

Yep, you're right. The good thing is that success also gives you strength to go out and replace the guy you lose.

Anyway, its football. If we knew how everything is going to go in advance, it wouldn't be that fun!

Mediocre in his first year, two bad reg season losses then a ***-kicking in their bowl in year two...meh, I don't see it.

Not surprising for UNC though.

Well, he gets at least 1 win/yr on sched vs his former assistant.

Put yourself in UNC BoT's shoes. Why wouldn't you extend Macky Mack?

Losing to the worst FSU team in 40 years while sitting just outside the Top 10 was bigger news imo.
So are you making fun of UNC and Mack Brown or are you surreptitiously suggesting that you want Manny to get an extension right now as well?

Worry about Miami. UNC isn’t going to make or break us. If UNC is the benchmark, we’re doomed. I know it’s about Alabama, Clemson and the ACC. We’ll have to beat them. It’s a game that’s as important as GT or Virginia. Everyone has given us fits. Manny needs to win this year. If not, the search will start. Unless he wins 10 games, I can’t see him getting one. That’s the only extension I care about. We’ll see

Right now, I’m not comfortable with our front 7 against Howell and their OL. I hope players legit emerge with next level steps to change that.

UNC is UNC. You believe in the direction of what your HC is doing you extend him. Happens everywhere in the country. Im not reading anymore into than just that
